Female banker arraigned for N90m fraud

Lagos—The police,  yesterday, charged a 32-year-old
female banker, Adejumoke Anthony, who allegedly aided
some fraudsters to steal N90 million from a customer of
the bank before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, in Lagos.
The defendant who resides at Lekki area of Lagos State,
is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
The prosecutor, Corporal  Innocent Odugbo, told the court
that the defendant  committed the offences sometime in
March 2013, in Lekki, Lagos.
He said that the defendant allegedly conspired with others
who are still at large to fraudulently obtain and steal N90
million belonging to one Mr and Mrs Babatunde Oduewu,
customers at her bank.
According to the  prosecutor, the alleged offences
contravened Sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of
Lagos State, 2011.
However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge
against her.
The counsel to the defendant, Mr O. Ojo, urged the court to
admit the defendant to bail on liberal terms.
Delivering her ruling, Magistrate  A. Awogboro, granted her
bail in the sum of N5 million with two sureties in like
sum.
She said that one of the sureties must be a blood relation
of the defendant while all the sureties must have
reasonable means of livelihood; and must be tax payers.
Meanwhile, further hearing in the case has been adjourned
to January 26, 2016.
