Suicide Bomber Ran Away From Killing Innocent People In Maiduguri

MAIDUGURI, Nigeria (AP) — A teenage girl
strapped with explosives ran away from a
crowded mosque this week, killing only
herself and cementing suspicions that Boko
Haram is using unwilling captives in its
terror campaign in northeast Nigeria.
The girl took off after her companion blew
up in an explosion that killed 30 people on
Monday in Maiduguri, the biggest city in
northeast Nigeria, witnesses and a
mortuary worker said.
"In the confusion of the blast, the other girl
just ran away and only exploded when she
was far from the crowd," said fishmonger
Idi Idrisa.
It was unclear if the teenager fled in fright,
fear or on purpose, but this and other
bungled bombings have many believing
that Nigeria's home-grown Boko Haram
Islamic extremist group is using some of its
thousands of kidnap victims as unwilling
weapons.
A military bomb disposal expert has told
The Associated Press that most bombs
carried by girls and women have remote
detonation devices, meaning the carrier
cannot control the explosion.
The U.N. children's agency last month
reported an "alarming spike" in suicide
bombings by girls and women, saying the
number of reported suicide attacks had
jumped to 27 in the first five months of this
year compared to 26 for all of last year.

On Monday, a girl who looked no more
than 12 years old detonated explosives that
killed 10 people and injured 30 in a crowded
market at Wagir village in northeastern
Yobe state, according to truck driver Malam
Usaini Jibril.
This past week, at least 85 people have
been reported killed in suicide bombings
and village attacks blamed on Boko Haram.
Hundreds of homes have been burned.
Victims include five villagers killed in a
cross-border raid in the Diffa region of
neighboring Niger.
Niger's army responded with an attack that
killed 16 suspected Boko Haram militants
and captured 32, according to a
government statement.
"The war against Boko Haram is a non-
negotiable political goal," Niger's
government said in a statement read on
state television Thursday night. "The fight
against Boko Haram will give us our
collective freedom."
The United States has condemned the
attacks and promised support for a
multinational army that this year has driven
Boko Haram from a large swath of
northeast Nigeria where it had set up a so-
called Islamic caliphate under its harsh
version of Shariah law.
But the multinational fight has been bogged
down with Chad claiming it has had to
retake some towns two and three times
because Nigerian troops have not arrived to
secure them.
Underscoring those failures, the U.S.
Embassy this week said "We encourage the
government of Nigeria to take steps to
secure and govern liberated areas by filling
in behind military successes with police and
civilian administration."
Boko Haram says Western-style
democracy has brought only corruption
and inequality to oil-rich but impoverished
Nigeria and that only Islamic rule offers a
just solution in the country of about 170
million people almost equally divided
between Christians and Muslims.

WOW! See How Much Michael Jackson Has Made Since His Death

Ever since pop star Michael Jackson passed
away, a fortune has reportedly been made
from his name.
How Much Michael Jackson Has Made Since His
Death
Michael Jackson
According to TMZ, the estate has grossed nearly
$2 billion since Jackson’s death. The money
comes from the movies “This is It,” the Cirque
show “Michael Jackson: The Immortal World
Tour,” 50 million albums sold and various other
ventures.

After expenses, that $2 billion gets cut down to
around $800m, which is a very good return. But
the $800 mil gets significantly cut by taxes –
we’re told to around $450 million.
MJ’s debts at the time of his death were around $
500 million, so just on those two numbers the
estate approaches being in the black.
But there are other ventures, like Sony, where the
estate generates a lot of cash.
As for Michael’s kids, there’s a trust where
millions gets distributed as they get older.
Sources told TMZ that ‘if the estate were
completely liquidated today, each kid would get
around $100 million’.
Michael Jackson died June 25th, 2009 at the age of
50.

» Nigerian Drug Smuggler Arrested In Delhi, India «

Shillong, June 26 (IANS) A Nigerian drug
smuggler has been arrested by Shillong-
based customs officials from New Delhi,
where he was under detaintion after his visa
lapsed, an official said on Friday.
Samnneji Chukwuemeka alias Moses Jeffery
was wanted in Meghalaya for trying to
smuggle drugs from the state to Holland in
2011.
"He (Chukwuemeka) has under security
radar for nearly four years after we foiled
his attempt to smuggle 645 grams of
brown sugar from Shillong to Holland way
back in August 2011 through a courier
agency," Superintendent of Customs
(Preventive) Shillong, D. Bhattacharjee, told
IANS.
In October 2011, Indian customs
department issued a red alert notice against
Chukwuemeka after it found that his
passport number also figured in the
parcelling box which contained the seized
drugs.
"Finally, we managed to arrest
Chukwuemeka only after the immigration
cell at New Delhi alerted us that he has been
detained by Delhi Police for over staying in
India," Bhattacharjee said.

» Anytime I Sleep With Her, I Receive Strange Knock On My Head — Husband «

A middle-aged woman, Sophia
Arapogun, has prayed an Agege
customary court to dissolve her 11-
year-old marriage because her
husband, Patrick, abandoned her for
two years.
Mrs Arapogun, who lives with her husband
and his six children from his previous
marriage, said he never asked her how she
fed.
“My husband buys foodstuffs for his
children and asks them to keep them in
their room. He never asked what I needed
at a particular moment and we lived
together,” she said.
The petitioner said her husband came home
at a time to sprinkle something that looked
like blood all over the house, adding that
she worked as a clerical officer in her
husband’s hospital.
She said: “I used to package melon to sell in
neighbouring markets but since my
husband didn’t like the idea, he employed
me in his hospital. There was a day I took
N300 to take passport photograph, he
shouted at me in the presence of his
children and I felt humiliated. I was more
shocked when he made sure I refunded the
money.”
She is seeking an accommodation from
him as compensation if her petiton is
granted.
Patrick said he married her because he
heard a pathetic story about her, adding: “I
asked if she had any evil spirit or medical
problems which didn’t make her conceive
during her two previous marriages but she
said no; then I married her.”
The respondent, a doctor, said after
their marriage, he discovered that
three minutes after making love to
her, he got a knock on his head.
“Not only did I get a knock, whenever
I had the intention of sleeping with
her, I would discover rashes on my
manhood or my manhood would be
twisted. At times, I would not get
Attention or my sperm ceases. Since
then, I became afraid of everything,”
Arapogun said.
He said his hospital crumbled after his wife
began to work with him, adding that she
stole money on several occasions.
“When we lived together, there were times
my wife left the bedroom and returned in
the morning without any explanation. Our
union is bad omen. I have suffered from
swollen legs, slight stroke and it was when I
realised my wife defecates in the bucket I
used to bathe that I decided to leave with
my children because I was not ready to die
young and I don’t know what was going to
happen next,” he said. The couple has no
issue.
President of the court, Pa Adekunle
Williams, ordered the petitioner to maintain
the peace and adjourned the matter till July
13 for further hearing.

Buhari Is Playing With His Life – Former DSS Boss

The recent bold decision by President
Muhammadu Buhari to entrust his personal
security to the hands of the military has
taken many by surprise.
The former security consultant and former
director of the Department of Security Service,
Mike Ejiofor gave an interview to Vanguard and
said that the president is risking his life trying to
settle personal scores.
He also said that Buhari is risking the national
security and the security of the president with his
recent order. Excerpts
Do you think the army has the capacity to
provide close body guard protection for the
president?
It is a laughable question because, on one hand,
the president is directing that the military check
points be withdrawn to perform their military
duty. How can you now entrust the life of the
president to the military when there are people
who are statutorily charged with the
responsibility? Whether the ADC was given the
directive, he doesn’t have the authority and
capacity and I stand to be challenged. It cannot
come from the ADC. If government has been
constituted, such matter should either come from
the NSA or the Secretary to the Government of
the Federation.

The Department of Security Service is charged
with the protection of the president, the vice
president, the Senate president, the governors,
deputy governors, speaker of the House of
Representatives and state lawmakers and their
families.
The president’s security should not be toyed
with. I believe that what is going on now is
people who are trying to settle personal scores.
Instead of looking at national security, they want
to settle personal scores and, in the process,
compromise national security and the security of
the president. I don’t believe it, but if it is true, it’s
rather unfortunate because the military personnel
being drafted are not trained in body guard
protection. The DSS men are trained for VIP
protection and the president falls under VIP.
What do you think is the way forward?
In the present circumstance, government has to
issue a statement because the statement from the
Special Adviser to the President on Media and
Publicity did not deny or confirm that the DSSS
has been asked to leave the Villa. There must be a
specific statement on whether they have been
withdrawn or not. As we speak, we don’t know
the true position and it is very dangerous to the
security of the president.
A recent memo from the presidential palace
revealed that Buhari’s ADC had ordered the
removal of all DSS operatives from the inner
regions of the palace, turning them into
celebrated gatemen.

USA Legalises Same Sex Marriage Nationwide

The Supreme Court of the United States of
America on Friday finally legalised same
sex marriage throughout the whole
country.
Before the announcement, only states which had
passed the legalisation allowed same-couple
marriages, but under the new ruling all 50 states
in the country would allow same sex marriage.
USA Legalises Same Sex Marriage Nationwide
President Barack Obama
The issue of same sex marriage has led to
significant changes in matrimony laws including a
court ruling over 50 years ago that legalised
interracial marriage.
This new ruling means that the ban on gay
marriages in 14 US states has been cancelled. The
states which forbid it are geographically situated
in the “Bible Belt” areas of the Southern US.
Today’s ruling means the decision from
Cincinnati’s Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals to
uphold the right of states to maintain “the
traditional definition of marriage” has been
cancelled.
A 5-4 decision with the majority opinion written
by Justice Anthony Kennedy made the decision
possible.
He wrote of same sex couples: “Their hope is not
to be condemned to live in loneliness, excluded
from one of civilization’s oldest institutions. They
ask for equal dignity in the eyes of the law. The
Constitution grants them that right.”

Buhari Tracks Stolen Funds To US, UK, Switzerland

The federal government has began tracing
Nigerian funds that were illegally moved
out of the country to foreign nations with
the aim of recovering and repatriating
them.
Reportedly, the funds were trace to the United
States, the United Kingdom, France, Switzerland
and other European jurisdictions where corrupt
officials allegedly have been stashing public funds.
On his first day in Aso Villa office, President
Muhammadu Buhari vowed that his
administration would recover all the looted funds
stashed in foreign banks by corrupt Nigerians.
“The next three months may be hard, but billions
of dollars can be recovered, and we will do our
best,” said Buhari in a statement signed by his
special adviser on media and publicity, Mr Femi
Adesina.
Earlier, Nigeria’s looted funds have been found in
such countries as Liechtenstein, Luxembourg,
Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United
States. Others are France, Germany, British Virgin
Islands and other tax havens spread across the
globe.
Moreover, Adesina also said the search for the
looted funds will not be limited to these countries
but anywhere in the world where they may be
hidden.
According to The Punch, anti-corruption agencies
will play a prominent role in the exercise targeted
at corrupt government officials in the recent past
administration and their private sector
collaborators, among others.
The federal government is planning to engage the
services of foreign private investigators to help
trace and find looted funds belonging to the
people of Nigeria. Details on The Punch.

Ogun Crash Update: OOU Students Storm Mortuary, Snatch Corpses

Pandemonium enveloped the premises of the
Ade
Maternity Home, Sagamu, Ogun State on
Saturday as
scores of grieving students of the Olabisi
Onabanjo
University forcefully removed the corpses of their
colleagues who were killed in a crash the

management of
the hospital had wanted to collect N20,000 per
corpse before the corpses could be released to
their
families.
This was said to have angered the students who
stormed the private hospital’s morgue and
evacuated
their dead colleagues forcefully without paying a
dime, and moved them to the morgue of the
Olabisi
Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu.
The police had a hectic time trying to keep the
students under control.

the
corpses of their colleagues were released to
them.
A source at the hospital also confirmed that the
corpses had been taken away.

10 Reasons Why Lagosians Go To Church On Sundays

The question is: how come your average
Lagosian, who is aggressive on weekdays
acts saintly in church on Sundays only to fall
back to his or her old ways thereafter?
1. For prosperity and financial break
through: People attend church for different
reasons. But to many Lagosians struggling with
their finances, church offers the best assurances
to get out of financial challenges. There is the
belief that giving one’s tithes and offerings in
church according to biblical injunctions will open
the gateway of financial blessings to the giver.
People actually go to church to ask to be blessed
financially by God.
READ ALSO: 10 Places In Lagos To Take Your
Lady To This Weekend
2. Networking: One major reason why some
Lagosians flock to church on Sundays is to
network and met people they would ordinarily
not meet in their everyday life. For them, meeting
these people can improve their chances of doing
business since different people of different status
attend church. Networking is one of the major
reasons for attending church in Lagos.
3. Forgiveness of Sin: I have heard some
funny stories of Lagosians attending church to
ask for restitution of sin or for offences
committed the previous week. Lagosians by
nature are aggressive people. Even the nicest of
people become pugnacious when they relocate to
Lagos. It is the way this city is wired. There is no
way one can live in Lagos without getting into an
argument or a fight with somebody. The church
offers the sanctuary to ask for forgiveness for
one’s brashness. It is a sanctuary to keep one’s
sanity at least for the period the service will last.
4. To Make Heaven: Lagosians in spite of the
intense hustling to make it in this world still want
to make heaven. You will often hear a typical
Lagosian say’ ’what does it profit a man to gain
the world and lose eternal life’. Yes, the average
Lagosian has an eye for the good things the city
offers but still keeps an eye on salvation.
5. To have a sense of belonging: Church
gives a sense of belonging, that you are not alone
in the harsh and lonely life of the city. By going to
church and belonging to the sub-groups and
departments, you get a sense that you belong in
the community of humans not the impersonal
and aloof people you meet in everyday life.
READ ALSO: The Best Place To Get Away From
Busy City Life This Weekend
6. To fulfill all righteousness: For some
Lagosians who have a busy life, Sunday is the
only day they have for their faith. They go to
church on Sundays to purge any sense of guilt
they might have for not attending church mid-
week or performing other church duties.
7. Healing: We are all humans and many of us
have health challenges. By attending we have the
faith that our inadequacies and physical
challenges will experience healing
8. Miracle Seekers: Lagosians are daily looking
for miracles in their everyday life. They want to
live their dream. They expect things will happen
and the church will hasten their miraculous
encounter with God. The dream job; the dream
house and the lovely partner will appear in a
miraculous way. It is hope rooted in faith.
9. To Keep Enemies at Bay: Many Lagosians
believe that whatever they are experiencing in the
physical is a manifestation of what has transpired
in the spirit. They believe nothing happens in their
lives that have not been written. They also believe
there are enemies out there who may be wishing
them evil or behind their travails in life. The belief
is that attending church shield them from the evil
machination of enemies.
10. To search for Future Wife or Husband:
This may appear funny but Lagosians especially
the young unmarried ones attend church with
the possibility of finding a future partner. it could
be a future husband or a future wife. That is why
many churches organize ‘Singles Fellowship’
where potential bachelors or spinsters could
meet. This is actually one of the main reasons
why young Lagosians attend church.
Wishing you all a happy Sunday.

Abducted 8-month-old girl found safe

An 8-month-old baby Genesis Hailey was asleep in her mother's car in north Houston, Texas when a man stole it early Monday morning. And as the hours passed, nobody knew if little Genesis Hailey would be found alive.
It all started, first at a Texaco. Then, 3 hrs later, the stolen car was found up the road, but no baby was in the car.

About three hours later,  she was eventually found by a jogger who just happened to turn down that stretch of road. Genesis was finally found, still strapped in her car seat.
Hong Nguyen is the jogger who found Genesis, thirsty and covered in ant bites.

"I saw the baby moving in the car seat, so I called 911," she said. "I stayed with the baby."

The baby had been alone for nearly 6 hours.

Clerk Marcela Thomas gave police surveillance video from the Texaco on Ella Boulevard and Beltway 8. It showed a man stealing the car with the baby inside at around 1am.

"She was going to buy something," said Thomas. "She came running back. "

Police say Genesis' mother couldn't stop the man. He hit the gas pump railing and sped off.

Police found the car at a nearby apartment complex without its license plates, the baby's stroller was on the ground and there was a blanket.

But No baby.

The officer who checked on the baby says the jogger took a different route Monday morning and founf the baby, if the jogger hadn't gone that route, may not have been found or they mady not have found her alive.

Sketch of the car thief and abductor
Police say there are still big questions about who stole the car and who kidnapped Genesis. Police described the suspect as a black male, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, in his late teens to early 20s.

Customers and bank workers exchange blows over BVN registration

In the huge rush to beat the Bank Verification Number enrollment deadline which is June 30th, 2015 however, customers of an old generation bank engaged in a brawl with members of staff of the bank in the banking hall in Enugu State.

Customers were gripped by fear over the reports that their bank accounts will be frozen if they don't enroll before the deadline.

The insistence on the BVN by bank cashiers before attending to customers also increased such fear.

The development led to an unusually large turnout of customers at banking halls in the Coal City and this has been happening since the beginning of the week.

However, the matter took a different turn at an old generation bank, located in the Independence Layout area of Enugu on Thursday.

Trouble started when security personnel and operations staff of the financial institution asked some customers to go outside the banking hall to wait their turn.

About 100 customers, who had been at the bank since 6am, had trooped into the banking hall when the doors were opened by 8am.
In a bid to maintain order, the bank officials asked the first 10 among the customers to fill the BVN forms and join about 30 others who did not complete the registration the previous day.
The other customers were told to leave the banking hall, and wait outside.
But the directive did not go down well with the customers, who protested, causing commotion in the banking hall.

The situation degenerated into a full blown fight when some customers violently resisted an attempt by the bank officials to lead them out of the banking hall.

In the ensuing fracas, a young man engaged an armed riot policeman, who was attached to the bank, in a fight, while another customer exchanged blows with a bank worker.

The situation further escalated as some customers, who wanted to capitalise on the confusion to move to the front of the queue, were physically resisted by those who were already there.

Normalcy eventually returned after other bank security personnel, who were outside, stormed the banking hall to overpower the violent customers.
The branch manager of the bank later announced that the bank would open on Saturday to continue the enrollment.
The branch manager, who did not disclose her name, complained that the customers had waited until the last minute before coming to enroll for the BVN.

Official figures show that more than 2,000
potential trafficking victims were referred to
the authorities in 2014 – 244 of whom were
from Nigeria, a 31% increase from the
previous year.
The National Crime Agency statistics show
the number of victims from Nigeria was
second only to the total from Albania.
Hyland told BBC Radio 4’s Today
programme: “I am extremely concerned
about this. And we’re talking about several
hundred every year. This isn’t just a one-off
– it’s continuous – so the treatment of these
people, what they go through, is actually a
very serious crime, so for me it’s a big
problem.
“But also I think the fact that there is a
demand for this kind of exploitation in the
United Kingdom really concerns me, that
there are people who will want to buy sex,
will want to exploit, will want to have
children as what are current-day slaves, so
that is a really serious problem.”
Hyland said international action was needed
to address the problem. He said: “It’s about
working with the law enforcement agencies
in Nigeria – working with all those in the
communities and telling them this could
happen – and that’s never been brought
together before, so it’s unique.
“This is a new idea – Europol, Interpol,
National Crime Agency, all must work
together. It’s up to me to oversee this. This
is not about lack of resources but about
using them effectively.”
In December, the Home Office published
figures estimating there are between 10,000
and 13,000 potential victims of slavery in
the UK. They include women forced into
prostitution, domestic staff and workers in
fields, factories and on fishing boats.
Earlier this month, Hyland warned that
“Oliver Twist scenarios” are taking place on
Britain’s streets as children are forced to
engage in pickpocketing, shoplifting and
begging.
The former Metropolitan police detective
was appointed in November to spearhead
the government’s fight against modern
slavery.

» Governors Ask Buhari To Share $1.6bn From NLNG Tax «

Governors of the 36 states have advised
President Muhammadu Buhari to share the
tax of the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas
(NLNG) to resolve the financial crisis facing
them.
Over 20 states are currently unable to pay
salaries as a result of a sharp fall in oil
revenue.
“Instead of NLNG paying $1.6 billion to the
federal government, we requested that it be
paid to the federation account so that it
could be shared amongst the three tiers of
government, so that we can also get
money to do one or two things,”
Abdulazeez Yari, governor of Zamfara state
and chairman of the Nigerian governors
forum, said at the end of a meeting with
Buhari on Tuesday.
“We proposed to Mr. President that instead
of being given bail out, that the funds for
jobs, projects that were done by the states
should be refunded by the federal
government. If the affected states can get
the refund, they can start paying salaries
without bail out.
“Secondly, we also brought to his notice
that most of the loans owed by the state,
some between four and seven years, if it
can be stretched to 20 years, the states will
be relieved and would be able to continue
other businesses including paying salaries.
“Also, we urged the president to follow the
constitution when it comes to money
sharing. Section 80 is very clear. That all
monies should go to the Consolidated
Revenue Account for the purpose, no
account should be kept anywhere because
this is what the constitution says.
“And Section 162 also is self-explanatory,
that whatever is going to happen to the
money will be after sharing to the three tiers
of government. That the NNPC or any other
revenue generating agency should not have
the first line charges.”
Apart from the governors of Bayelsa and
Plateau states, who were represented at the
meeting, the other 34 governors attended.

» Buhari Appoints Wike Member Of National Salary Committee «

Against the backdrop of possible face-off with
President Mohammedu Buhari, the Rivers State
Governor, Nyesom Wike, has been appointed
into the National Salary Committee by the
President.
The Rivers State governor was in Abuja for a
meeting with President Buhari alongside other
governors for an undisclosed discussion.
Although details of the president’s meeting with
the governors are being awaited, it was
confirmed that Wike was appointed by the
president as a member of the committee to look
into the issue of salaries’ in the country.
The meeting with the governors took place in the
Presidential Villa today shortly after President
Buhari and his Vice, Yemi Osinbajo, relocated to
the Villa for the first time since they were both
sworn-in on May 29.

» Deny Peterside Access To Electoral Materials, Wike Tells Tribunal «

Rivers State Governor and candidate of the
Peoples Democratic Party in the April 11,
2015 governorship election, Nyesom Wike,
has asked the state governorship election
petition tribunal sitting in Abuja, to bar the
rival All Progressives Congress and its
candidate in the election, Dr. Dakuku
Peterside, to inspect the electoral materials
used for the poll.
Peterside and the APC had on May 3, 2015,
filed their petition before the tribunal
challenging Wike’s victory at the poll.
The Independent National Electoral
Commission, Wike and the PDP are the
respondents to the petition. The Justice
Muazu Pindiga-led tribunal had on June 11,
2015 granted an ex parte order permitting
the petitioners to personally or through their
lawyers or forensic expert inspect the
electoral materials used for the poll.
But, through a motion dated June 16, 2015
filed on his behalf by his lawyer , Emmanuel
Ukala (SAN), Wike asked the tribunal to set
aside the ex parte order for the inspection of
the electoral materials, particularly the
voters register and the card reader
machines.
He argued that allowing the petitioners to
have access to the card reader machines
and the voters register in a manner that
would allow them to make copies and store
their contents electronically could
compromise the secrecy of the ballot.
He added that it could pose security
concerns as the materials sought to be
inspected by the petitioners contained
“highly sensitive security information
containing the biometric data of all
registered voters in Nigeria.”

» APC Senators In Physical Combat Over Sharing Of Principal Offices - Vanguard «

ABUJA- CRISIS rocking the All Progressives
Congress, APC , over the selection of
principal officers for the Senate, Tuesday
deepened as the meeting of the caucus
members of the party in the upper
chamber ended in deadlock.
At the meeting of the Senators to address
the problem, some senators engaged in
physical combat bringing the meeting to an
abrupt end.
According to a source, the parley held
behind closed door in Meeting Room 3:01,
had about 40 Senators in attendance as
Senator Danjuma Goje, Gombe Central, led
the group loyal to Senate President Bukola
Saraki, while Senator Barnabas Gemade,
Benue North East, led the group loyal to
Senator Ahmad Lawan.
Declaring open the meeting, Saraki said, “I
appeal to you all to let us do those things
that will unite us than do those that will
divide us. For me, I am ready and desirous,
as colleagues to work with all of you in
order to provide that focused leadership in
the Senate and National Assembly as an
institution.
Despite Saraki’s appeal, a source told
Vanguard that the position Senators loyal to
the Senate President proposed that principal
officers must emerge through an electoral
process, conducted by Zonal caucuses,
which will then present winners to the
Senate President by Tuesday, for
announcement at the plenary, the next day.
The Unity Forum, a group of Senators loyal
to Senator Lawan, however, disagreed,
insisting that only names nominated by the
APC leadership for the offices must be
adhered to.
There was a melodrama when Senator
Kabir Marafa, Zamfara Central and Senator
Tayo Alasoadura, Ondo Central were
involved in fisticuffs over their opposing
positions.
Vanguard gathered that Senator Rafiu
Ibrahim (Kwara) and other Senators
intervened, saving the ugly situation from
degenerating further.

» APC Crisis Gets Messy: 8 Governors Ask Oyegun To Resign - Vanguard «

ABUJA – Crisis rocking the All Progressives
Congress, APC appeared to have now
sprawled into a full blown war between the
governors elected on the party’s platform
and the national chairman of the party, Chief
John Oyegun with the governors asking
him to honorably resign.
The governors who paid a surprised visit to
Oyegun at the party’s national secretariat on
Tuesday after their meeting with president
Mohammadu Buhari were said to have
conveyed their demands to the chairman in
a closed door meeting they had with him.
The governors who visited Oyegun
included Comrade Adams Oshiomhole
(Edo), Tanko Al-Makura (Nasarawa), Mallam
Nasir El-Rufai (Kaduna), Ogbeni Rauf
Aregbesola (Osun), Abubakar Sani Bello
(Niger) Senator Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo), Atiku
Bagudu (Kebbi) and Abubuakar Badaru
(Jigawa).
Highly placed party sources revealed that
the governors were not happy with
Oyegun’s poor handling of the crisis
bedeviling APC on the heels of the recent
National Assembly elections that enthroned
Senator Bukola Saraki and Rep. Yakubu
Dogara as senate president and speaker,
House of Representatives respectively.

» Nigerian States Owe $3.3 Billion «

Nigeria’s states owe 658 billion naira ($3.3
billion) and one way out of the financial
crisis could be for banks to extend loans to
them to up to 20 years, Zamfara state
governor said on Tuesday.
President Muhammadu Buhari, who said on
Monday the country’s treasury was
“virtually empty”, said after a meeting with
the governors on Tuesday that the
government could recover billions of stolen
dollars while some money from the Excess
Crude Account could be used to cover
unpaid salaries.
“The total indebtedness of all the states
including FCT (Federal Capital Territory) is
put at 658 billion naira. Of course, you
know that some of these states are owing
salaries, and collected loans from banks,”
Zamfara state governor Abdulaziz Yari
Abubakar told reporters after the meeting.
Several states obtained loans from the
domestic bond market and banks when oil
prices were high to fund infrastructure
projects. But the price of crude, Nigeria’s
main source of revenue, has since plunged
leaving the government with funding
challenges and unpaid salaries.
Buhari, who took office last month after
defeating incumbent Goodluck Jonathan in
March elections, said the next three months
would be challenging but vowed to recover
billions stolen by government officials and
plug leakages.
“On an immediate lifeline for states that owe
salaries running into many months,
President Buhari said that a committee
headed by the Vice President, Professor
Yemi Osinbajo, will look at the Excess Crude
Account and see what can be shared
immediately,” the presidency said in a
statement.
“We will restore sanity to the system,”
Buhari said.

» Former Minister Faults Buhari On Empty Treasury, Says Jonathan Left About $30bn «

ABUJA – THE immediate past Minister/
Deputy Chairman National Planning
Commission (NPC) Dr. Abubakar
Olanrewaju Sulaiman, Tuesday faulted
claims by President Muhammadu Buhari
that his administration met an empty
treasury.
Suleiman said the former administration as
at May 29 left behind the sum of US$
2billion, adding that the sum would have
been higher if not the governors insistence
on sharing the fund.
He warned that the former President, Dr.
Goodluck Jonathan must not be criminalized
and painted a plunderer and looter of the
nation’s treasury before the generality of
Nigerians.
The clarification was in response to the
President’s statement during an interactive
session with journalists in Abuja, where he
was quoted to have said that his
government met “virtually an empty
treasury.”
President Buhari reportedly said that it was
adding a disgrace that Nigeria cannot pay
salaries of its workforce.
Expressing his dismay over the President’s
statement, Sulaiman in a statement in Abuja
described the report as “unscientific and
unfair”, stressing that the immediate past
administration “left behind close to US$
30billion.”
He said, “Government can’t tell us that there
is no Excess Crude Account(ECA), Sovereign
Wealth Fund(SWF) or are we saying the
Federal Inland Revenue Service(FIR) and
related agencies had not in the last one
month been generating revenue?
“Until they are able to prove they had no
receipts from these government agencies in
the last one month before Nigerians can
now buy into Mr. President’s claims of an
empty treasury.”
He recalled that under the Jonathan’s
administration,Nigeria was rated the largest
economy in Africa and 26th largest in the
world, querying how come such a
government would leave behind an empty
treasury.
He said”Money made by government is
meant to be spent, and this the immediate
past administration did responsibly. Every
government, even in the so-called western
world, including the US which today
remains one of the largest debtor nations in
the world, government operates on deficit.
“Is it not on record that President Obama
inherited US$3 triillion debt, a collapsed
banking sector and mortgage industry,yet
he never raised any alarm. None of these
has happened in Nigeria under Jonathan.
“Under Jonathan,Nigeria became the largest
Africa economy and 26th in the world
amidst deadly security challenges and
dwindling international prices of oil. In spite
of all these, the FG never owed salary.
“Upon inception of Jonatha’s administration,
it is on record that the price of oil at the
global stage was over 100 dollars per barrel
and at the close of the administration, it
dropped to 46dollars. Yet, there wasn’t
collapse of government and federal civil
servants were paid as at when due.
“It will be misleading therefore for our
respected President Muhammadu Buhari
and indeed the ruling APC to claim to have
met an empty treasury.”
He further reminded the new government
that “aspiration to governance is a call of
meeting and confronting challenges
headlong. So, we urge the APC-led
government to hit the ground running as
promised Nigerians by confronting the
challenges.
“We are not in doubt of the capability of Mr.
President to do it. He should therefore get to
business, put in place structures and
personnel to redeem the pledges made to
the Nigeria.”

» Former President Jonathan's Son Hale And Hearty - Aides - Sahara Reporters «

Ariwera, a teenage son of former President
Goodluck Jonathan, is hale and hearty,
contrary to rumors of his passing, sources
close to the former Nigeria leader said.
Several aides of the former President told
SaharaReporters on Tuesday that his
rumored death came as a surprise to them,
as the boy is not even sick.
Social media outlets were buzzing with the
rumor all of Tuesday. SaharaReporters had
reported that the former President was
vacationing in Los Angeles.
Saharareporters learned that he plans to
return to Nigeria later tonight via Germany,
flying Lufthansa into Port Harcourt
tomorrow.
It is not clear if this return was planned, or
is due to the revelation by our publication of
his whereabouts. Earlier in the day, in a
stunning announcement, President Buhari
disclosed that western countries have
signed up to help Nigeria recover its assets
that were voraciously looted Mr. Jonathan.

Nigeria’s Treasury ‘virtually Empty’ Says Buhari.

President Muhammadu Buhari Monday said that he inherited a “‎virtually empty treasury” with debts running into hundreds of millions of Dollars and appealed to the media to explain the true position to Nigerians so that “they won’t match on us”.

The President who spoke while meeting with members of the State House Press Corps said it was a disgrace that Nigeria is not able to pay workers salaries adding that this was as a result of bad management.

According to him, there was ‎already a lot of pressure on his government due to the huge expectations of Nigerians on what they desire from the administration.

While calling on the media to cooperate with his administration‎, President Buhari said he choose Femi Adesina to be his Adviser because he is ‘one of the best’.

“It is not by accident that I got the best of you to be the special adviser, one of the 15 aides  I had to get clearance from the Senate‎. He is one of the best President of the guild that I can have as special advisers. I brought one of the best of you so that he can consistently defend me against you.

“Whether my job is a difficult one or easy it is up to him, but I’m here to thank you in advance for ‎what good and ill you are going to do to me.

“I have to quickly come and see you and welcome you to this place. I hope ‎what happened of recent between the former president and one of you (the seizure of the accreditation of the Radio Germany reporter) will not happen between me and you.

“I hope we are starting and this culture developed, of 100 days is bringing so much pressure with treasury virtually empty, with debts in millions of dollars, with state workers and even federal workers not paid their salaries. It is such a disgrace for Nigeria. I think Nigeria should be in a position to even pay it’s workers. This bad management that we find ourselves in, we really need your help to protect us from people before they match on us” he said.

For members of the State House Press Corps, it is a first time that they would be meeting the president, starting from President Obasanjo up to President Goodluck Jonathan.

Chairman of the State House Press Corps, Kehinde Amodu who spoke on behalf of members of the Corp pledge to work with the government in the interest of Nigeria.

Akpabio Planning To Join APC - Vanguard

The shocking revelation that the former governor of Akwa Ibom State, GodsWill Akpabio and his successor, Udom Emmanuel, have been visiting key leaders of the APC to pave the way for their defection to the party has once again brought to the fore the inherent weaknesses in our politics.

Should they be welcomed into the party, the APC would appear more as a group of people with weak moral content and poor ideological standing than an ideologically driven political party.

In addition, such a cross over, if it happens, will irredeemably rubbish the anti-corruption brand of the Buhari administration and irredeemably weaken the legal case instituted by Umana Okon Umana, the APC governorship candidate in Akwa Ibom state against the disputed election of Udom Emmanuel.
Let’s examine the Akpabio phenomenon. Between May 2007 and the first half of 2009, Akpabio maintained a chummy relationship with President Yara’Adua, but was noticeably lukewarm towards then vice president, Goodluck Jonathan. When Yara’Adua became too sick to function, Akpabio led a major campaign against the emergence of Jonathan as the acting president because he had always nursed the ambition of being picked as the vice president in 2011. This was publicly confirmed by Senator Aloysius Etok, his representative in the senate. As soon as Jonathan became the Acting President, Akpabio turned around and became his cheer leader.

The defeat of Jonathan on March 11 was a big disappointment for Akpabio who blamed the former president for not taking extreme measures to guarantee him victory. The former governor had long wanted to be ‘an enduring national political figure that is relevant in one administration to another’. His role model is Tony Anenih. But the defeat of Jonathan and the prospect of the loss of his senatorial seat at the tribunal have rankled with him endlessly. So, quickly, he ditched Jonathan as soon as he conceded defeat.

There are many reasons why Akpabio and Governor Udom Emmmanuel should not be admitted into the APC. It is widely known that the elections in Akwa Ibom State were flawed, conducted in breach of the INEC electoral guidelines and the 2010 Electoral Law. Over 30 Akwa Ibom people were killed on the day of the governorship election across the state by in widespread violence. The APC in the state, led by its governorship candidate, Mr Umana Okon Umana, has filed a petition against the purported election of Udom Emmanuel.

Evidence that Udom was not duly elected is overwhelming, one of which is that data obtained from INEC head office in Abuja shows that the total number of accredited voters captured by card readers for the gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections in Akwa Ibom State was 437,128, but the figure declared by the state INEC office was 1,122,836. By INEC guidelines, use of the card reader was mandatory in the gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections. If they join the APC, Umana’s case will be diluted or he could even be compelled to drop it; and all the sacrifices of Akwa Ibom people who deserve justice would be in vain.
It should noted that Akpabio’s election into the senate is also being challenged vigorously by the APC candidate, Chief Inibehe Okori. Their defection into the APC would therefore tantamount to laundering their ill-gotten mandates just like criminals are always eager to launder proceeds of crime. It will also be morally reprehensible and politically repugnant if these two men join our party. Umana and thousands of his supporters were driven out of the PDP by Akpabio to create unimpeded opportunity for the imposition of Udom during the primaries.

Many PDP chieftains in Akwa Ibom like former governor, Victor Attah and former Petroleum minister, Don Etiebet have been constantly harassed, insulted and humiliated by Akpabio. In the course of the presidential campaigns, Akpabio heaped insults on our presidential candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, who by God’s grace won the election. During PDP’s presidential campaign

Herbalist: I Sent Kidnappers After Rich Clients

*Says he collected N300,000 on each abduction
victim kept in his custody

By Evelyn Usman

The visit of stern looking policemen in three vans
to Odubotu compound, located in Okesopen area
of Ijebu-Igbo,Ogun state, sent fear down the spine
of members of the sleepy community.

The armed men reportedly jumped out of the
vehicles and positioned themselves strategically
around[quote] the building.

Some of them reportedly stormed into one of the
rooms, where they dragged out a herbalist
identified as MukailaDauda..

Not done, the policemen, discovered to be
operatives from the Special Anti Robbery Squad,
SARS, of the Ogun State Police Command, again,
dashed inside the herbalist’s apartment, taking
him along and conducted a search, in the process
of which they reportedly came out with two AK
47 rifles, a pump action rifle, a barretta pistol, a
cut-to-size locally made short gun and assorted
charms.

The 46-year-old herbalist was subsequently
whisked away in one of the police vans.
The fear stricken neigbours later came out of their
hiding, with expression of confusion and which
needed clarification on their faces. The
explanation was provided, following the allegation
that the herbalist was a member of a kidnaps
gang that had been terrorizing Ogun and
neigbouring states.

Arrested alongside Dauda were four other
suspected members of the syndicate identified as
Ahmed Adebanjo, Tunde Akilo, a popular
commercial motorcyclist, Sunkanmi Dacosta and
Lateef Agboola.

Preliminary investigation, according to the police,
revealed that the suspects may have been
responsible for several cases of kidnapping in
Ijebu axis. One of their victims, the herbalist
allegedly told the police, was one Chief Alakoso, a
prominent businessman, who was kidnapped
three months ago around Emu Eleni area of the
state and released after a ransom of N2 million
was paid.

In this interview with Sunday Vanguard, Dauda, a
father of six, disclosed that his role in the
kidnapping saga was to keep abducted persons
until ransom was paid, adding that he usually
got N300,000 at the end of each operation.
He disclosed that some of the victims were rich
clients who had come to him for spiritual
assistance, while others were abducted in
connivance with their relatives. According to him,
most of the victims were not abducted with
charms, which hypnotized them. The herbalist
explained that rituals were performed on the
kidnappers before embarking on any abduction
trip, to enable them succeed.

Joining syndicate

Dauda explained why he joined the syndicate. “I
am a herbalist. I have been into the profession for
25 years. I specialise in curing strokes and other
ailments which are beyond medical treatment. At
a point, business was no longer moving and
feeding my two wives and six children became
burdensome. It was at this point that I met
Tunde Akilo, a commercial motorcyclist, and
Sunkanmi Dacosta, who introduced me to
kidnapping.

My role is to keep victims in my house, pending
when their families would pay ransom. I never
went out with them but I gave them names of
prominent persons in Ijebu Igbo. Some of these
people have patronized me.

“The first person that was brought to my house
was one Chief Alakoso. He was brought in March,
blindfolded. I got N300,000 after ransom was paid
four days later, for keeping him in my place. This
amount was aside my regular share from the loot
because that was the bargain. Also, two Onipomo
in Ijebu Igbo were kept in my place. I also gave
their contacts to my members.

“I usually prepared charms to fortify members
before they go for any job. This is to enable them
get their catch without trouble. I also prepared
charms that will make victims lose their senses. A
day before they would leave, I would lit fire and
say some incantations into it. The fire will be on
until they arrived. But if it goes off in the process,
that means they have entered into trouble”, said
the herbalist.

Four Nigerians will be presented the inaugural Queen’s Young Leaders Awards, on Monday, at the United Kingdom’s Buckingham Palace.

The awards will be presented by the Queen of England, Queen Elizabeth II. The four Nigerians are: Isaiah Owolabi, Kelvin Ogholi, Nkechikwu Azinge and Oladipupo Ajiroba.

According to a statement issued by the QYL, the awards are being given to exceptional young people from across the Commonwealth. Apart from the four beneficiaries from Nigeria, Canada, India, Cameroon and South Africa have three winners each.

The award winners aged between 18 and 29 are being recognised by the UK monarch for taking the initiative to support others, raise awareness and inspire change on a variety of different issues including education, gender equality, mental health and disability equality.

“We are very much looking forward to welcoming the first Queen’s Young Leaders to London on the 22nd (of June). It will be such an honour to witness these exceptional young people receiving their awards from Her Majesty the Queen for their incredible work in their countries and across the Commonwealth,” the Executive of the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust, Dr. Astrid Bonfield, said.

One of the winners, Owolabi, a co-founder of Hacey’s Health Initiative, told SUNDAY PUNCH, during a courtesy visit on Wednesday by the British High Commission represented by Theresa Adeniyi and the QYL Nigerian ambassador, Stephanie Okereke-Linus, that the QYL award placed further responsibilities on him.

“The success is collective. I am happy and also surprised by the award. I see the award as a bigger responsibility and an opportunity to further impact on the life of others. This award will provide needed boost to our efforts at the HHI to continue to engage the public and private sectors and the people on the need to pay more attention to health, women and girls issues in the society,” he said.

In addition to meeting the UK monarch, the winners before receiving their awards at the palace will meet the UK Prime Minister, David Cameron, visit the UK headquarters of Twitter and the British Broadcasting Corporation.

Buhari To Merge EFCC, ICPC; 42 Ministries Reduced To 19-vanguard

After three weeks of consultations with international
and Nigeria’s political leaders, President
Muhammadu Buhari appears set to effect major
changes in the administration of the country in a bid
to translate the ‘change’ mantra of his party into
reality. To start with, the President is said to have
accepted the recommendation of the transition
committee he raised a few weeks ago to slash the
number of ministries from the present 42 to 19 with
a view to saving cost and making them more effective
and responsive to the needs of Nigerians.
In the same vein, many of the ministries have been
merged to ensure proper coordination of duties and
ensure greater efficiency and service delivery.
A source close to the Presidency told Sunday
Vanguard that the number of Federal Government
departments and agencies had also been trimmed in
line with the policy of the administration.
Effectively, it means that no fewer than 50 of the
MDAs that were not backed by relevant laws might be
scrapped and their staff moved into relevant
departments to save cost.
The Presidency source hinted,”But the point being
made is that relevant MDAs that will exist under the
present administration must be those backed by
laws.
“What that means is that the era of doing things the
wrong way to please certain persons in positions of
power is over.”
Shedding light on some of the ministries that had
been merged, the official pointed out that the
Ministry of Aviation and relevant agencies had been
subsumed with Inland Waterways and associated
agencies.
Similarly, the Ministry of Agriculture has been
merged with that of Water Resources under what the
Presidency source described as the consolidation of
larger ministries.
It was learnt that under the administration of Buhari,
only 19 ministers and 17 ministers of state would
operate as opposed to the previous arrangement
where there were at least 42.
It was further gathered that some ministries would
be run by senior ministers while others would be
manned by junior ministers to save cost.
On the fight against corruption, the source disclosed
to Sunday Vanguard that the Economic and Financial
Crimes Commission (EFCC) is to be merged with the
Independent Corrupt Practices Commission, ICPC, to
tackle graft in a new way that would be prompt,
fearless and decisive.
Buhari, who travelled out of Abuja since returning
from the African Union meeting in South Africa, late
last week, is expected to join his wife, Aisha, at the
Presidential Villa, for the first time after being sworn-
in on May 29.
The wife had moved into the Villa on Thursday
ahead of the President to prepare the ground for his
formal assumption of work at the seat of power. He
has been operating from the Defence House in the
last
three weeks.
A top source also said Buhari was expected to make
some key appointments this week so as to get the
machinery of his administration running. The delay in
naming the critical staff of his office had forced some
of his key loyalists to demand that he acts fast to
deliver the change he promised Nigerians during the
campaigns.

Bird Turns To Woman After Electric Shock In Oshodi, Lagos

The stories of Witches and Wizards flying
around some Nigeria cities and getting
trapped in the day is no longer news
because it is always happening. End time
things have started happening before our
very eyes, we just have to be careful.
According to viral reports, a bird fell off a
high tension wire and on landing on the
ground, immediately transformed into a
woman.The bizarre incident occurred in
Oshodi and the woman is said to have
sustained injuries from the electric wire.
There is hardly a month that we would not
hear the horrifying stories that always come
with these sect and sometimes, the stories
are weird and seem unbelievable.
Residents are still trying to get the true
identity of the lady and also ascertain what
her mission was before she lost control in

» Nigeria's Four Refineries To Begin Operation Next Month - NNPC «

Nigeria’s four refineries will resume production
next month, spokesperson of the Nigeria National
Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, has said.
Ohi Alegbe on Thursday said the four refineries –
two in Port Harcourt, one in Kaduna and the
other one in Warri will be fully operational from
next month.
Speaking to AFP, Alegbe said “the operations
resume after a successful turn-around-
maintenance (overhaul) of their facilities”.
“The turn-around-maintenance has been on for
some time. We did not just want to make any
noise about it. The refineries will start production
as soon as they have delivery of crude oil for
refining,” he said.
His statement raises hope of an end to perennial
petrol shortages that have plagued Africa’s largest
crude producer.
The NNPC has four refineries — two in Port
Harcourt in the south, one in northern Kaduna
and another in southern Warri, with a combined
installed capacity of 445,000 barrels per day.
A network of pipelines and depots located
throughout the country link these refineries.
Nigeria produces a massive two million barrels of
crude oil a day, but has to export it due to a lack
of working refineries. It then imports fuel back
into the country at international market prices — a
situation blamed on corruption and
mismanagement.
To cushion the blow on the general population,
the government sells fuel on the streets at
subsidised prices, and makes up for the higher
amounts spent by importers by reimbursing
them the difference — a system seen as rife with
false claims and overpayments.
Last month, a crippling fuel shortage almost
grounded Nigeria to a halt, as fuel importers and
marketers shut their depots to protest some $1
billion (900 million euros) in unpaid
reimbursements.
Black market and legitimate petrol vendors did a
brisk trade, selling at around 300 naira ($1.5; 1.3
euros) a litre — well above the officially-set price
of 87 naira.
In January 2012, the government tried to end the
subsidies, causing petrol prices to more than
double. It was ultimately forced to reinstate the
payments after tens of thousands of people took
to the streets in violent protests that left more
than a dozen dead.
Alegbe said the resumption of refinery
activity “will significantly improve the
supply of petroleum products in the
country.”

Unknown gunmen on Thursday morning
killed an Anglican pastor, Rev. Ibiene
Jamabo and a nine year-old boy, identified
as Nimela, at Wakama community in Ogu/
Bolo local government area of Rivers State.
LEADERSHIP gathered that the slain Jamabo
is the head of the Church of Nigeria
(Anglican Communion) in the community,
while the nine year-old child is the son of
the member representing Wakama
community in the Ogu/Bolo Legislative
Assembly.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations
Officer (PPRO), Ahmad Muhammad, who
confirmed the killing of the two persons,
said the Command has drafted policemen
into the community to maintain peace.
Narrating the incident to newsmen at Ogu,
headquarters of Ogu/Bolo local government
area, leader of Wakama community, John
Jonathan said, “What I saw is that very
early this morning (Thursday) Kpogo
people came into our community and killed
one of the Anglican pastor, and one of our
sons in our community. We are still looking
for six members of our community.”
Jonathan attributed the killing to a boundary
dispute between Wakama and its neighbor,
Kpogo community in Tai local government
area of the state, and appealed to Governor
Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike to intervene in the
boundary dispute and ensure an end to the
hostility.

» Osinbajo Was Never Excluded From National Security Meetings - Premium Times «

More details are now emerging about the
purported exclusion of the Vice President
from some National Security Council
meetings held so far, days after the
presidency formally denied the false
speculations describing them as “the
creation of someone who just wanted to
write something”.
Informed presidency sources said the Vice
President, Yemi Osinbajo was actually
informed and invited to the meeting by the
President himself, and that due to other
pressing engagements and commitments
of the presidency, the VP had to be present
at other events, including a foreign trip to
Sudan.
According to sources, “there was no way
the Vice President would be excluded from
a meeting for which it was the President
himself that told him about it and requested
him to attend in line with the law of the
land, but as things turn out there were
other events requiring the attention of at
least the President or the Vice President at
the same time.”
Some of the media outlets that reported and
republished the false story includes
naij.com, dailypost.ng and a foreign paper,
International Business Times.
No major Nigerian or international media
organization published the story
Sources close to Mr. Osinbajo said they
believe some outgoing political appointees
of the PDP administration still in the
presidency were responsible for planting
the falsehood in the media in order to cause
disaffection among the Nigerian people,
hoping to spur an early crisis for the new
Buhari presidency.
Citing legal and constitutional basis of the
issue, one inside source in the presidency
also explained that the Third Schedule, Part 1
of the Nigerian Constitution was very clear
as to the membership of the Security
Council and the Defence Council.
In both federal bodies, the President is the
Chairman of the Councils while the Vice
President is stipulated as Deputy Chairman
who presides over the meetings in the
President’s absence.
Indeed the Nigerian Constitution clearly
stipulates the functions and membership of
both the National Security Council and the
National Defence Council.
WHAT THE CONSTITUTION SAYS
“Third Schedule Part I Federal Executive
Bodies
(Established by Section 153)
G – National Defence Council
16. The National Defence Council shall
comprise the following members –
(a) the President who shall be the Chairman;
(b) the Vice-President who shall be the
Deputy Chairman;
(c) the Minister of the Government of the
Federation responsible for defence;
(d) the Chief of Defence Staff;
(e) the Chief of Army Staff;
(f) the Chief of Naval Staff;
(g) the Chief of Air Staff; and
(h) such other members as the President
may appoint.
17. The Council shall have power to advise
the President on matters relating to the
defence of the sovereignty and territorial
integrity of Nigeria.
K – National Security Council
25. The National Security Council shall
comprise the following members –
(a) the President who shall be the Chairman;
(b) the Vice-President who shall be the
Deputy Chairman;
(c) the Chief of Defence Staff;
(d) the Minister of the Government of the
Federation charged with the responsibility
for internal affairs.
(e) the Minister of the Government of the
Federation charged responsibility for
defence;
(f) the Minister of the Government of the
Federation charged with the responsibility
for foreign affairs;
(g) the National Security Adviser
(h) the Inspector-General of Police; and
(i) such other persons as the President may
in his discretion appoint.
26. The Council shall have power to advise
the President on matters relating to public
security including matters relating to any
organisation or agency established by law
for ensuring the security of the Federation.”
In his dismissal of the false story,
Presidential Spokesman, Mallam Shehu
Garba said over the weekend “that is the
creation of someone who just wanted to
write something. It was on the same day
he travelled to Sudan to represent the
President, the government and the people
of Nigeria at the inauguration of the
president of that country,” Shehu said on
Saturday, June 13, 2015, while speaking to
Sahara TV.
“He couldn’t have been present in two
places at the same time. Osinbajo is the
Vice-President of Nigeria. In the absence of
the President, he is the President. So, there
cannot be dark corners into which he will
not be allowed. It is not true,” he added.
Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia of the Federal
High Court, Lagos, on
Thursday failed to give judgment in the
money laundering trial involving a former
Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode,
due to the absence of the prosecution
counsel, Mr. Festus Keyamo.
The judge chose not to deliver the verdict in
Keyamo's absence, although the lawyer
was represented in court.
Fani-Kayode's lawyer, Chief Ifedayo Adedipe
(SAN), urged the judge to go on and deliver
the judgment since it was ready.
He said the law did not make it mandatory
that a prosecuting counsel must be present
before a judgment is delivered in a criminal
case.
The senior advocate said even if someone is
holding a watching brief for the prosecuting
counsel, the judgment could still be
delivered.
But Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia insisted that
she was more comfortable reading the
judgment in Keyamo's presence.
She stood the case down for 10 minutes to
enable the lawyer from Keyamo's
chambers, Mr. Festus Afeiyodion, to
confirm from his principal the day he would
be available.
About an hour later, Afeiyodion told the
judge that Keyamo requested for a short
stand-down to enable him come, as he was
handling another matter elsewhere.
"Mr. Keyamo asked that the matter be stood
down till 1.30pm. By then, he would be
through and be here personally. In the
alternative, he suggested that any other day
could be chosen and he will be here,"
Afeiyodion said.
Adedipe, after briefly conferring with Fani-
Kayode, said they would not mind waiting
till 1.30pm.
However, the judge said she would prefer
not to deliver the judgment under pressure
as the day would have been far gone by
that time.
Apparently to prove that the judgment was
indeed ready, she displayed a typewritten
material on her tablet, saying she prefers to
read it out at a convenient time.
Fani-Kayode was accused of making a
transaction exceeding N500, 000 on
September 20, 2006, which was not done
through a financial institution.
He was alleged to have accepted N2.1
million in cash, which was paid into his
personal bank account by his aide, Supo
Agbaje, while he served as Minister of
Culture and Tourism.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the
alleged offence which the
Economic and Financial Crimes Commission
(EFCC) said contravenes the Money
Laundering Act.

» No Chadian Air Strikes Conducted In Nigeria - Defense Headquarters «

The Defence Headquarters on Thursday said the
claim that the Chadian military had conducted air
strikes against six terrorist camps in Nigeria was
not correct.
This is contained in a statement issued in Abuja
by the Director of Defence Information, Maj.-Gen.
Chris Olukolade.
Olukolade said the fact was that the Nigerian
Airforce surveillance mission identified targets
tagged: Camp 6 around Bosso town which was
not within Nigerian territory “and alerted the
partners, accordingly’’.
He said the places reported to have been struck
by the Chadians were therefore most likely to be
in Niger Republic and not Nigeria as widely
reported in the international media.
”Although the terms of the multilateral and
bilateral understanding with partners in the war
against terror allow some degree of hot pursuit
against the terrorists, the territory of Nigeria has
not been violated as insinuated in the reports
circulated in some foreign media,” he said.
Olukolade said the Nigerian military would
continue to cooperate with partners in the
mission to exterminate or contain terrorists
strictly in conformity with existing terms of the
Concept of Operation at strategic, operational or
tactical levels.
He said it was however important that issues
were “accurately reported while avoiding
misleading or unnecessary sensationalism from
any quarter’

» Amaechi's Spokesperson Reacts To "Invasion" Of Her Home «

Ibim Semenitari Reacts To The "Invasion"
Of Her Home By Rivers Govt Officials
The immediate former commissioner for
information in Rivers State, Mrs Ibim
Semenitari has reacted to the raiding of her
house by officials of the Rivers state
government and the towing away of an
Lexus SUV which was said to be
government property from her residence.
Her full statement is given below:
Subject: RESPONSE TO MR NYESOM WIKE
PRESS STATEMENT BY MRS IBIM
SEMENITARI
On Thursday June 18, 2015, over 10
policemen armed with machine guns and in
two trucks - one Ford Transit and one Hilux
arrived my residence, No 12 A Ernest Ikoli
Street, Old G.R.A Port Harcourt. Without
either a search warrant, letter or precious
information, they forced their way into my
premises.
My security guard on duty requested to
know their mission and who sent them.
They refused to disclose either, but went
round taking photographs and videoing my
premises. The security guard got in touch
with my assistant who spoke with the men,
explaining to them that I was out of town
and again requested to know their mission
and purpose. Again they declined insisting
on seeing me first. She then got in touch
with me by phone as we were uncertain as
to the identity of the policemen in question.
Upon further investigation and after about 3
hours of them laying siege on my premise,
I was told that they were from Rivers State
Government House and had been sent to
recover vehicles in my possession.
They attempted to break into a Range Rover
Jeep belonging to my Husband and bought
long before I was made Commissioner in
Rivers State Government, damaging the
front door. The vehicle in question contrary
to the lies being paraded is not an armoured
vehicle and has never at any point belonged
to the Rivers State Government nor its
agents including myself as Commissioner
of Information.
By the time I finally made contact with them
and expressed my displeasure, they insisted
that they would take away a Lexus jeep
duly allocated to me as Commissioner of
Information and which by law I am entitled
to leave with upon leaving office. The
monetization policy of the government
allows public officers to leave government
with their official vehicles as this is in lieu of
vehicle, allowance, transport and other
allowances, which they cannot draw
because of the monetization policy of 2002.
Mr. Nyesom Wike served as Chief of Staff,
and upon departure left with all the vehicles
he used as Chief of Staff. This has been the
practice since this democratic dispensation
when President Olusegun Obassanjo
instituted the monetisation policy. Having
served as Commissioner for two tenures, I
am entitled to my status cars and have
proof of allocation.
While I understand that Mr. Wike feels a dire
need to destroy the reputation of Governor
Amaechi and all those worked with him, it
is unacceptable that he will engage in
brigandage, thuggery and underhand
tactics to do so. A simple letter from any
government official requesting me to make
a submission or tender documentation
would have been the appropriate way to go
and I would have willingly tendered all the
relevant documents to them. Breaking into
my home, invading my privacy, damaging
my property and removing property from
my premises is inappropriate and illegal.
I have chosen however to put out these
details in the public space as it is apparent
that for some persons only a destruction of
my hard earned reputation would do and
this I would not accept. My records in the
Ministry of Information are crystal clear I
hope that Mr. Nyesom Wike is able to say
same about his tenure in every office he has
held. Forcing their home into my home
unlawfully isn’t the appropriate way for any
government that claims legitimacy to
behave.
