A woman was caught yesterday during the
governorship and state assembly elections in Aro
chukwu, Abia State, with a food cooler allegedly
stuffed with ballot papers.
In her attempt to avoid being arrested, she said
the cooler contained food meant for one of the
party agents. But upon examination, it was
discovered that the cooler contained ballot
papers.
The suspect’s arrest came on the heels of al
legations of existence of fake result sheets and
ballot papers in some polling units in the area.
Similarly, voting was also marred by failure of
card readers in Abiriba, Nkporo and many wards
in Ohafia. Reports showed that information
relating to the last presidential and National
Assembly elections could not be erased by the
card readers. The technical hitches made it
impossible for accreditation to take place, as card
readers rejected PVCs, showing warning signals
of double voting.
Consequently, the election in the affected areas
has been rescheduled for today.
