Size does matter. Young elephant faces off against 14 lionesses and comes out on top (photos)

Jesse Nash, a safari goer on tour of the Chinzombo Safari Camp in Zambia witnessed one brave elephant fight off fourteen hungry lionesses. The lionesses set on the elephant as it makes its way to the water but he swats them aside almost without effort. A few persistent lionesses follow it into the water but just like on land, they were no match for it in the water either.

The lionesses just don't know when to quit and the elephant finally goes on the offensive forcing the pack to scatter in all directions. The safari tour group said the elephant survived the encounter and earned the nickname Hercules. See more photos after the cut...

Photo: Police arrest notorious kidnapping gang in Rivers State

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Idris has warned criminals, especially kidnappers in the country never to think Nigeria is lawless. IGP Idris gave the warning when Operatives of the IGP’s Intelligent Response Team “IRT” arrested a notorious kidnapping gang known to have been terrorizing law-abiding citizens in Rivers State and its environs.
The gang met its end when they kidnapped a woman and her one year old daughter from her Port Harcourt home, demanding the sum of two million, five hundred thousand naira as ransom for their freedom. Based on credible technical intelligence generated by the IRT, this was however agreed as bait.

But the end of the kidnapping gang came when in their attempt to claim the said sum of money at the agreed point; Operatives of IRT engaged them, rescued the victims and arrested four of the kidnappers who gave their names as: Herbert Oriminagbe, Chijioke Akah, alias Kottos, Kelechi Nwaordu, alias Seedof and Nelson Ajumogobia alias Ibios.

In their confessional statements, the gang admitted that they were also responsible for the kidnap of one Undunobuk and other innocent Nigerians. Going through a laptop computer recovered from them, it was discovered that the real owner Undunobuk was once robbed in his Port Harcourt residence and later kidnapped to unknown seaside only to be released on the payment of one million, three hundred thousand naira ransom.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Idris said the Nigeria Police Force has the technical and intelligence capacity and capability to reduce the perceived rise in crime, especially kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism and other forms of violent crime. He therefore charged Nigerians to always inform the Police when they perceived any act of criminality and avail necessary credible information.

Pope Francis fell over as he arrived at the Jasna Gora shrine in front of millions of people watching around the world.

The 79-year-old Pontiff who arrived in Poland on Wednesday and will be touring various religious and cultural locations, was walking towards the altar to celebrate a mass at the southern Black Madonna shrine of Czestochowa to mark the 1,150th anniversary of the Baptism of Poland, when he took a huge tumble and fell.

A group of priests quickly helped him back to his feet just before the mass began.  Despite the fall, he got back to his feet and continued with the mass.

Senegalese footballer Demba Ba has returned home after he had a surgery for his broken leg. Demba suffered a horrendous leg-break on Sunday July 17th during a match with his team, Shanghai Shenhua against bitter rivals Shanghai SIPG. Sharing this new photo on his IG page, Demba wrote

Dangote drops out of World's Top 100 Rich list as Naira crashes

Africa's richest man, Aliko Dangote, has dropped out of the list of top 100 richest people in the world. This is largely due to the devaluation of the Naira. Dangote who owns the second largest sugar-refinery in the world, remains richer than American billionaires, Donald Trump, and Oprah Winfrey who ranks as the second richest black woman in the world.

Dangote is now worth $11.1 billion, while Trump and Oprah are estimated at $4.5 billion and $3.1 billion, respectively.

The devaluation of the Naira against the dollar from about 198 to about 300, has eroded about a quarter of Dangote’s wealth as he continues to invest heavily in Nigeria. At the launch of the new foreign exchange regime on June 23rd, Dangote fell from number 46 on the world billionaire list to 71 and has continued to drop as the Naira continues to crash.

According to Bloomberg billionaires, Dangote, who was worth $15.4 billion (N3.05 trillion) in March, is now worth $11.1 billion (N3.3 trillion) - richer in naira but poorer in dollars.

This is such a sad thing for me to report this afternoon. Just two days after we were all happy that Nigerians kindly donated to cancer patient, Mayowa Ahmed, for surgery she needed for ovarian cancer, LIB just learnt that Mayowa and her family scammed kind hearted Nigerians.

You see, Mayowa is really sick. She truly has Ovarian cancer. She's admitted at LUTH but she didn't need money for surgery, because doctors had told Mayowa she was beyond treatment and no hospital in the world could treat her as she was extremely far gone. Mayowa had reached stage 4 and doctors, unfortunately, already told her family she won't survive it and had advised them to take her home. Her family instead used her situation to raise money from Nigerians. The doctors in LUTH have also denied giving her family a medical report advising her to seek treatment abroad. Continue..
