This is politics, one must surely emerge but that doesn't stop each party from working earnestly and tirelessly to win. APC on their part believes in Buhari and have worked so hard to achieve it so did PDP in Goodluck. Whom the crown fits should wear it and lets respect such decision of the Nigerians as they decide whom they deem fit should rule them. We are one Nigeria, let some persons refrain from behaving like we are not;going to some unexpected extremes of threatening the life of others. Let's always observe some decorum and magnitude of tranquillity in whatever we do and not to flare up. Help one another and build the great nation we have all been longing for. Whoever emerges, my congratulation.

Jonathan calls, congratulates Buhari

President Goodluck Jonathan has congratulated the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on his victory in the Saturday’s presidential election.

A top government official told our correspondent that Jonathan had called Buhari on the telephone to congratulate him.

Meanwhile, Jonathan is currently meeting with the leadership of the National Peace Committee for the 2015 general elections, led by a former military leader, Gen. Abdusalami Abdusalami (retd.).

Others at the meeting included the Primate of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Most Rev. Nicholas Okoh; Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, Cardinal John Onayeikan; and a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mrs. Priscilla Kuye.

The meeting is ongoing.

Teenager Kills Boyfriend For Attempted Rape

The police in Lagos have arrested an 18-year-old lady, Kafayat Olawale, for allegedly stabbing to death her boyfriend, Ojo Ijabike, 32.

The incident happened on Friday on Olutola Adebayo Street, off Idimu Road, in the Alimosho area of Lagos State.

Investigations by PUNCH Metro revealed that Ijabike, an indigene of Owo, Ondo State, had attempted to forcefully have carnal knowledge of the suspect when there was a scuffle between them.

Olawale, who hails from Osun State, was said to have stabbed the deceased in the heart region, while the 32-year-old victim inflicted injuries on her.

The landlord of the house, who heard the noise, was said to have broken the locked door and met the duo lying in a pool of blood.

They were reportedly rushed to a private hospital in the area where Ijabike, an electrician, gave up the ghost.

When our correspondent visited the Cele Egbe area, where the suspect was an apprentice in a hairdressing salon, he met her boss, who said Olawale was tricked into Ijabike’s apartment.

The woman, who did not identify herself, said, “She is a little girl and I often tried to guide her home whenever it was late in the night. She cannot hurt a fly.

“Ojo (Ijabike) bought her a phone and she brought it to the office that morning. He called her and said he forgot the charger at home, that she should come over to pick it.

“It was the charger she went to pick when he locked the door against her and wanted to sleep with her.”

A young man, who claimed to be the “real boyfriend of the suspect”, said the deceased was not in a relationship with Olawale.

The barber, who said they had been dating since 2014, told PUNCH Metro he had warned Olawale to stop collecting gifts from the deceased.

“But she kept telling me it was just a normal friendship. I tried my best to always please her, but I am aware the guy was also giving her money and gifts and I knew his intention was not pure.

“When he bought her the phone, I frowned at it. I was told it was on Friday when she was on her way to work that he called her to come over to his place to take the charger of the phone which he forgot to give her.

“That was how he wanted to take advantage of her and things went awry,” he said.

Our correspondent visited where the incident happened on Olutola Adebayo Street and met co-tenants of the deceased.

A girl took our correspondent to the one room apartment of the deceased, which was shut.

A drama however played out when our correspondent was directed to the landlord of the house, who quickly denied being the owner of the house.

“I am new in this house and just rented a shop here. I don’t know anything and cannot say anything,” the elderly man said.

Other residents equally declined to speak with our correspondent. PUNCH Metro subsequently visited the private hospital, where the duo was rushed to on Modupe Shittu Street.

A worker, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, explained that the deceased was still alive when he was brought to the hospital.

“When they were rushed here, they were both alive. We, however, observed that the man was stabbed in the heart region. He died soon after. The girl also sustained injuries. I learnt that it was after the girl stabbed him that he collected the knife and began stabbing her in anger,” the worker said.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the deceased had first used the weapon to threaten the suspect so she could submit to his desire.

Our correspondent was told that while the corpse of the victim was taken to the morgue, the suspect was arrested by policemen from the Ikotun division.

A police source said the suspect was stabbed more than six times in her back.

He said, “The lady was also injured. She was first hospitalised before she was arrested.”

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Nwosu, confirmed the incident, adding that investigations were ongoing

PDP agent, Orubebe, disrupting presidential results announcement

The agent of the Peoples Democratic Party at the announcement of the presidential election in Abuja, Mr. Godsday Orubebe, is currently disrupting the continuation of the presentation of the results.

Shouting on top of his voice, Orubebe, a former Minister of the Niger Delta Affairs, alleged that INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, had taken side with the All Progressives Congress.

At the venue of the results presentation on Tuesday, the PDP agent shouted, “You sent a committee to Rivers to probe what happened there. We submitted petitions to you about Kano, Jigawa, Katsina but you have not done anything about our complaints. You cannot continue with these results; we will not take it.”

As Jega tried to calm him down asking to be given a chance to respond, Orubebe shouted, “Mr. Jega, You cannot continue, go to your office.”

SEE How PDP Rigged The Election In Rivers State Openly [See Photos]

This photo has a clear date, time and you can see the new colour coded INEC ballot papers on a open field.
According to the source, this is “open thumb printing inside police station in Gokana” in Rivers.
INEC said they had already received petition on the madness that took place in Rivers State in the name of election on Saturday and that there are many reports of “alleged malpractices”. So, watch out!
Rigging details against PDP have also emerged from Akwa Ibom State. See Details Below:-

At a press conference on Sunday, Umana Okon Umana, the Akwa Ibom governorship candidate of the APC, showed thousands of ballot papers that voters actually cast for his party in Ibesikpo local government area, but which were isolated and thrown away by rogue INEC staff in collusion with officials of the PDP in the state.

The discarded ballots, which were just for the Ibesikpo local government area alone, offered an indication of the depth of electoral malpractice that characterized the polls in the state on Saturday.

Crazy Things Girls Do To Get A Guy's Attention

This election has gotten everyone's nerves all tuned up, so lemme lighten the atmosphere with these crazy things girls do to get a guy's attention.

Here we go:

1. Sucking in of tummy.
Girls, how many of you will say u have not done this? Even subconsciously? You are walking down the street with your friends and you see this very cute guy with his peeps and all of a sudden, u push your tummy in and push ur chest out.....and catwalk. Don't lie, we all do it.

2. Asking for silly favours on a regular basis.
"Um, can u help me with your pen?" You have about three pens in your purse and might not even need it in the class, but just to get his attention, out of all your friends around u, you tap him gently and in the sweetest voice possible ask for his pen. Not just pen. You ask for salt, help with the light bulb, his book.....even broom sef!

3. Going against his opinions in a open conversation.
Even I am guilty of this . In an open conversation in class or group hangout, he says something and u immediately go against it vehemently. You wan form say you get your own opinions....in other words, independent and we all know guys love Independent women, don't we?

4. Hateful attitude.
He sits beside u and u frown your face. You pass him and his friends and say hi to them all except him. You create the illusion that u don't like him...while u wither all up inside when u hear his voice. (NLand girls do this a lot )

5. Phonetics.
U immediately switch to phonetics whenever he is around. U talk through your nose, forming oral english teacher just to create the impression that u are classy. Most times, it all turns up fake and funny as it would seem u are talking through your nose. "Puh-lease car-n yuh jas be ya-self?".

6. Bumping into him.
Classic move, never goes wrong. You see this cute yummy-looking guy walking your way, u 'accidentally' bump into him and fall. "Oh! Am sorry dear. Are u okay?". In the sweetest voice and brightest smile, "Yeah, thanks....". According to movies, that always leave a lasting impression. Guys does it?

BSO calls for arrest of Fani-Kayode

ABUJA-Buhari Support Organization, BSO, has alleged that the federal government has entered into an unholy alliance with some Resident Electoral Commissioners, RECs with an aim of declaring the PDP winner in the states where the res

ults are yet to be declared public.
The Organization also called for the arrest of the Director, Media and Publicity unit of the PDP presidential campaign organization, Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode for announcing on Sunday that PDP was already leading in 23 states even when the independent National Electoral Commission, INEC was yet to official declare the results.
BSO spoke through its Media and Publicity Director, Dr. Chidia Maduekwe in a press conference yesterday in Abuja.
Maduekwe however asked APC and Buhari supporters to remain calm.
He said “As we speak, the PDP-led federal government has directed some state REC who haven’t publicly announced results to declare PDP as the winner in their various states and let APC go to court. We ask Nigerians to join us in saying, “No”, to this recent manifestation of habitual impunity.
“We appeal to all our numerous supporters to sustain their calmness in the face of current provocation and abuse of our electoral processes.
“We strongly condemn in its entirety, the recent outburst and blatant misinformation of the general public by Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode that the PDP is already leading in 23 states of the federation. This claim is a total breach of the electoral act and is designed to cause the breach of peace. Gen. Mohammadu Buhari had repeatedly emphasised to his supporters to maintain calmness in that face of provocation by the ruling party. This recent utter exhibition of lawlessness enmeshed in the typical character of impunity by PDP is unacceptable.
“We ask the security agencies to immediately effect the arrest of Mr. Fani-Kayode for breaching relevant sections of the electoral act which forbids any organ outside INEC from officially declaring election results. His arrest for further questioning will be a clear indication that the security agencies are truly unbiased participants in this electoral process as this declaration is also a breach of both the 1st and 2nd Abuja Peace Accord.
“We call on the international community and observers to note the steps being taken by PDP to cause severe breach of peace and call them to order. We also ask our supporters to maintain the peace as we await the official announcement from INEC of the authentic result for the March 28th elections.”

Ronke Oshodi-oke Laments The Big Size Of Her Boobs: “I Spend N10,000 On A Bra”

Busty Nollywood actress, Ronke Ojo, better known as Ronke Oshodi-Oke has revealed that getting her bra size in the market has mostly been a herculean task.

The light skinned actress revealed this in a recent interview, where she further disclosed other challenges she has faced due to her body size.

According to her, finding a right bra size for her ‘large mammary glands’ is very difficult, and when she finally gets one, she has to spend not less than N10,000 to get one. The actress revealed that she normally buys her bra whenever she travels to the US.

“Getting my bra size can be very difficult. It makes it more expensive. I always want to ‘pack’ myself. I wouldn’t want to appear in a movie where I would need to run or walk fast and my boobs would be bouncing. I don’t like it. When you ‘pack’ yourself very well, when anything happens, you are ready. I have to go the extra mile to look for good bras.

“I spend at least N10, 000 on a bra. At times, I get my perfect size when I travel abroad especially in the US. If anybody is going to the US, the only favour that person can do for me is to buy bra for me. It is the only gift that I can appreciate from anybody and it would make me happy,” she lamented.

Ronke also disclosed that she started wearing bra before her any of her female classmates thought of wearing one. She further explained how she was then mocked because of it by her classmates while growing up.

“While they were still wearing bra top and vest, I was already wearing bra. When we wore our school uniforms, my bra straps would show and they would be making fun of me. I used to feel embarrassed and I would wish I was in their category. I was big and tall then. I used to sit at the back of the class,” she recalled.

Four-year-old boy, sister burnt to death in Lagos fire

A four-year-old boy, identified as Paul, and his sister, 1 year, have been burnt to death after fire gutted a bungalow in the Igbo-Efon, Lekki area of Lagos State.

The incident happened around 5am on Saturday.

PUNCH Metro was told that the fire began from a cooking stove which exploded in the bungalow where the victims lived with their parents.

The inferno was said to have quickly spread and torched the room where the children were.

Our correspondent gathered that the mother of the children fled the area and called for help, but the children could not be saved.

PUNCH Metro learnt that firefighters and other officials of the Lagos State Fire Service and National Emergency Management Agency were on ground during the incident.

The Director of the Lagos State Fire Service, Rasak Fadipe, said the agency was not alerted on time, adding that when firefighters got to the scene, they only met the charred remains of the victims.

He said, “The fire started around 5am, and it involved a bungalow on 11, Fabiyi Street, Igbo Efon. The bungalow has a two and a three bedroom flats.

“We were alerted to the incident exactly 6.03am and when we got there, we still met the fire raging. We deployed our men from the Eti-Osa and Onikan divisions in the area.

“However, when they got there, they only saw the corpses of the kids; they had suffered severe burns injuries.

“Preliminary investigations reveal that the children’s father was not around, but their mother was. They were preparing a meal on the stove, when the stove exploded.

“The children could not escape it and that was how they were burnt to death.”

Fadipe said an uncle of the victim called the ambulance service which conveyed them to the mortuary, adding that the tragedy was avoidable if precaution had been taken by the children’s parents.

He advised members of the public to avoid storing kerosene and petrol in the same keg, which he said might have been responsible for the incident.

“We suspect that the explosion was because kerosene was mixed up with petrol in the tank of the stove. This could be because the couple used the same keg to buy petrol and kerosene.

“It is very important for people to ensure that the keg they use in buying kerosene is not the same used for petrol.

“Again, when the fire in a cooking stove is to be put off, we must ensure the thread is completely out, and not for us to be using crude method of water or mouth to blow out the fire, which could cause an explosion,” Fadipe added.

The spokesperson for NEMA, Ibrahim Farinloye, said the victims were with a couple in the area because of the elections, when a gas cooker exploded.

He said, “The children were in the area because of the election and wanted to seek refuge in the event that there was violence where they stayed with their parents. They were cooking when there was an explosion.

“The kids hid under the bed, but were burnt to death. Nobody knew they were there until somebody remembered that they were still in the house, but by then, it was too late.”

He added that officials of the agency tried to salvage the situation, but it was too late.

Amaechi was right for taking Patience to ICC — Kuti

THE head of Ransome Kuti’s dynasty and founder of the Nigerian Network of Non-Governmental Organizations, NNNGO, Ms. Yemisi Ransome Kuti, has said that Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State was right in taking the first lady, Mrs. Patience Jonathan to the International Criminal Court of Justice, ICC, for making unguarded utterances during her campaign tours in the country.
Kuti, at the launching of The Women’s Situation Room for 2015 general elections in Abuja, said, yesterday, that the governor was right, if he decided to take the first lady to the ICC for making some utterances to incite people for violence, when she ought to have acted in the opposite as the mother of the nation, adding that the First lady had not represented the country well in some of her recent utterances.

Patience, Amaechi and Jonathan
She said, “I think, Amaechi was right, if he is taking her to court, fine, he should do so. The utterances of Mrs. Jonathan have not represented our country well. I am afraid, a lot of things she said has cast a bad light on women as a whole. Women are known to be more constrained in their approach and in our statements because we look at so many sides before we utter statements. But the language of diplomacy ought not be found in the purview of women alone; when one is in public office, he or she should not be speaking as an individual because he has a responsibility to speak with some level of constraints, discipline, ensuring that he is in that position to create peace within the people; that why his statements should not be the one that upset or breed acrimony.
“As a mother of the nation because of her position, she has a greater responsibility than any other woman to ensure that her statements are geared towards bringing peace, justice and creating more love among her people than to create division. That is why I think Amaechi was right in taking her to ICC.”

Crossing fingers can reduce feelings of pain

How you feel pain is affected by where sources of pain are in relation to each other, and so crossing your fingers can change what you feel on a single finger, finds new UCL research.

The research, published in Current Biology, used a variation on an established pain experiment, known as the “thermal grill illusion.” In the thermal grill illusion, a pattern of warm-cold-warm temperatures applied to the index, middle and ring finger respectively causes a paradoxical, sometimes painful, sensation of burning heat on the middle finger — even though this finger is actually presented with a cold stimulus.

“The thermal grill is a useful component in our scientific understanding of pain,” says Angela Marotta (UCL Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience), co-lead author in the research, “It uses a precisely-controlled stimulus to activate the brain’s pain systems. This can certainly feel painful, but doesn’t actually involve any tissue damage.”

The thermal grill produces burning heat sensations because of a three-way interaction between the nerve pathways that tell the brain about warmth, cold and pain. The warm temperature on the ring and index fingers blocks the brain activity that would normally be driven by the cold temperature on the middle finger.

“Cold normally inhibits pain, so inhibiting the input from the cold stimulus produces an increase in pain signals,” explains co-lead author Dr Elisa Ferrè (UCL Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience). “It’s like two minuses making a plus.”

The researchers showed that this interaction was based on the spatial arrangement of the fingers. When the middle finger was crossed over the index finger, the paradoxical sensation of burning heat on the middle finger was reduced.

However, if the index finger was cooled and the middle and ring fingers were warmed, the burning heat sensation was now increased when the middle finger was crossed over the index finger.

PVC better than US voter card –Ambassador

The Ambassador of the United States to Nigeria, Mr. James Entwistle, has applauded the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission to use the Permanent Voter Card in the general elections which commenced on Saturday.

The ambassador, who spoke with journalists at the International Conference Centre, venue of the National Collation Centre of the election results, on Sunday said Nigeria’s PVC involved superior technology which his state of Virginia in the US needed to copy.

He said, “I am very impressed by the decision of INEC to use technology in this election. The Permanent Voter Cards are very high-tech.

“They are more high tech than my voter card from the state of Virginia in the US. My voter card does not have biometric. It does not have my fingerprint. The high-tech gives the process more integrity.

“I congratulate INEC on taking the part of High-tech. I think we need to come and study it so that we can use it in my country.”

The ambassador expressed hope that INEC would address the challenges experienced in the use of card readers and move forward.

Entwistle, who said he monitored the elections in Abuja, expressed satisfaction over the patience and dedication of Nigerians to the smooth conduct of the exercise.

He said, “I was extremely impressed. On Saturday, I went to number of places in the FCT. Every place I went, I was impressed by the patience and dedication of the Nigerian voter. I found that inspirational.”

Entwistle further said Nigerians had reminded the world of how beautiful democracy was.

He said the expectation of the American government “is that the Nigerian people will win”.

He added that his country’s government would be willing to work with anybody who emerged as winner of the presidential election.

He said, “I mean they (the people) will get what they want which of course is a transparent, credible and non-violent election. We look forward to working with whatever government emerges from the election.”

President-elect to emerge today –Jega

The Independent National Electoral Commission has said that despite the extension of Saturday’s elections till Sunday in some parts of the country, the results of the presidential poll will be declared on Monday(today).

INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, gave the assurance   as some of results from wards, local government areas and states continued to emerge on Sunday.

For instance, results from Osun and Ogun states showed the All Progressives Congress Presidential candidate, Maj.Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, defeating President Goodluck Jonathan.

But in Ekiti State, Jonathan had an easy ride as he beat the APC candidate.

Jega, who gave journalists an update on the conduct of the polls in Abuja, said that as of Sunday evening, results of the elections had only been completely collated in two states, one of which was Ekiti.

He said, “Some people assume that when I said 48 hours( for the release of the results), it starts from the morning the elections commenced. It is 48 hours after elections have ended, like yesterday(Saturday).

“You start counting 48 hours from yesterday (Saturday) when substantial majority of the polling units ended elections.”

The INEC chief expressed satisfaction over the conduct of the   polls, which he said held in a substantial number of polling units across the country, including the troubled North-East zone   where   internally displaced persons   voted in   Adamawa, Yobe and Borno states.

“We are pleased that the elections went on smoothly in a substantial number of polling units across the country, including the North-East where the commission was also able to conduct voting for Internally Displaced Persons in the three states of Adamawa, Yobe and Borno,” Jega said.

He said that out of more than   150,000 card readers used for the conduct of the polls , only 300   failed, representing   about 0.25 per cent of the total number of machines.

“It is also gratifying to note that the card readers worked well in the majority of polling units, even though there were areas where difficulties experienced necessitated additional guidelines to allow for manual accreditation of voters, as announced yesterday (Saturday),” Jega said.

He stated that manual accreditation was done in some polling units in   Osun, Kebbi, Ekiti, Adamawa, Borno, Jigawa, Anambra, Akwa Ibom and Ebonyi states.”

Jega said the elections were extended and   concluded on Sunday in nine states and the Federal Capital Territory.

Taraba State has the highest number of 116 polling units where the polls were extended.

Other states where the number of polling units where the elections were extended are Lagos (90), Kebbi (16), Adamawa (25), Niger (six ), Yobe (37), Borno (eight), Jigawa (37), Kano (13) and FCT (two).

He also rejected the claim by the spokesman for the PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation,   Femi Fani-Kayode, that his party had won in certain number of states.

Jega, who said Fani-Kayode should be asked the source of his figures, stated that as of the time he was addressing the journalists on Sunday evening, collation had only been concluded in two states. He said that   the results from the two had yet to arrive Abuja in the manner that it could be announced.

The chairman said, “You said somebody in one of the parties said the PDP is winning in 23 states. I don’t know the sources of his information. I know result have not been collated in 23 states.

“May be you should direct the questions to him and let him explain.”

He   advised journalists “to be careful about reporting this kind of information that is being put out there by people who are clearly partisan.”

He also debunked speculation that he was under pressure to declare results of the presidential election inconclusive.

“We are not under any pressure to declare inconclusive elections. In fact, I wonder who will be interested in declaring the election inconclusive.

Woman Stabs Husband To Death Over PDP, APC Presidential Candidates

Lagos—Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old pregnant woman who allegedly stabbed her husband to death during a quarrel over who would emerge winner between the Peoples Democratic Party and All Progressives Congress, APC presidential candidates, while voting was on-going , weekend, at Ejigbo area of the state.

The scene

The incident, which threw the densely populated area into disarray, occurred at about 12noon inside the couple’s one room apartment at 81 Military zone junction.

There were different accounts on how tragedy struck. A version of the account said the couple had divergent views on their choice of presidential candidates. While the husband was said to have decided to vote for the PDP, his wife, simply called Onyiyechi, reportedly chose to vote for the presidential candidate of the APC.

An argument which degenerated into a fight over whose choice would hold sway reportedly ensued between them.
In the process, Onyiyechi allegedly stabbed her husband with a kitchen knife in the chest region.
Another version said the deceased, whose identity could not be immediately ascertained, told his pregnant wife to take the okro she was grating inside the room, to the veranda which also served as kitchen , an instruction she reportedly disobeyed, following which an argument which led to a fight occurred.

Visit to the scene

When Vanguard visited the scene of the incident yesterday, the couple’s apartment was under lock . Their neighbours however described the suspect as an amicable person who had never quarreled with anyone since she moved into the building.
One of the tenants who spoke on condition of anonymity told Vanguard that they did not witness how the suspect allegedly stabbed her husband.
But he explained that : “ We were all outside waiting to vote when Onyiyechi rushed out, shouting for help. Out of curiosity, we all ran inside, only to discover blood all over the ground, on entering their apartment.

”On closer observation, we noticed that the blood was from her husband chest region. We met him on the ground. Before we could rush him to the hospital, he gave up the ghost.
Perhaps, he would have survived the attack had Onyiyechi called for help early. From all indication, it was clear that she attempted to manage the situation immediately the incident occurred.

It was when she discovered that the situation had overwhelmed her that she raised alarm.
”I do not know the name of her husband. We only know that of his wife, who we fondly call Onyiyechi

The irony of this matter is that she is not cantankerous.

”She has never beaten a little child, let alone to fight with any neighbor. Again on that day, we saw both of them together. They were seen sitting outside, one hour before the incident occurred. Policemen from Ejigbo later came to move the corpse to the Isolo morgue”.

Women Give Birth To Babies In Bush Fleeing Attack By Insurgents

Alkaleri (Bauchi) – Two pregnant women gave birth to babies in the bush Sunday morning while fleeing from suspected Boko Haram insurgents that attacked Gunti Gumi village of Alkaleri Local Government area in Bauchi state.

An eye witness, Malam Bala Kurba, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the insurgents stormed the village, forcing the residents to take to their heels.

“The pregnant women were among those who fled the village. I was also in the bush when I saw a group of women battling to assist the two pregnant women deliver their babies.

“The women gave birth successfully and were taken to a nearby community, where they were kept,” said Kurba, who is the Manager of the Bauchi State government-owned Community FM Radio station in Alkaleri.

Bauchi Police Command’s spokesperson, DSP Haruna Mohammed, confirmed the attack in a statement issued on Sunday.

He said that some unknown gunmen in a convoy of 10 vehicles attacked some towns in Alkaleri and Kirfi Local Government Areas.

“Today 29/3/2015 at about 12.25 am,  unspecified numbers of unknown gunmen in a convoy of over ten vehicles, stormed many polling units in Kirfi and  Alkaleri Local Government areas,  destroying many election materials.

“The hoodlums further attacked Kirfi and Alkaleri Divisional Police Headquarters, but were repelled and pursued towards Dindima Town along Bauchi Gombe Road.

“Meanwhile, operations are still on-going .The entire surroundings have been cordoned-off by combined security forces and effort is being intensified to restore normalcy in the area.

“Members of the public are urged to remain calm and disregard rumour from mischief makers,” he said. (NAN)

He said, “Some people assume that when I said 48 hours, it starts from the morning the elections commenced. It is 48 hours after elections have ended, like yesterday.

“You start counting 48 hours from yesterday (Saturday), when substantial majority of the polling units ended elections.”

He expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the Saturday’s polls, which he said held in a substantial number of polling units across the country, including the troubled North-East region, where he said Internally Displaced Persons were able to vote in three states of Adamawa, Yobe and Borno.

“We are pleased that the elections went on smoothly in a substantial number of Polling Units across the country, including the North East where the commission was also able to conduct voting for Internally Displaced Persons in the three states of Adamawa, Yobe and Borno,” he said.

He also debunked speculation that‎ the resort to manual accreditation in some polling units, where the card reader machines failed, could undermine the credibility of the election.

According to him, out of more that 150,000 card readers used for the conduct of the polls on Saturday, only 300 of them failed, representing only about 0.25 per cent of the total number of machines.

“It is also gratifying to not that the card readers worked well in the majority of polling units, even though there were areas where difficulties experienced necessitated additional guidelines to allow for manual accreditation of voters, as announced yesterday (Saturday),” he said.

As the Independent Electoral Commission collates the results of the March 28 Presidential poll across the country, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Maj. Gen Muhammadu Buhari(retd.), is leading in six of the 11 Local Government Areas collated so far in Kogi State on Sunday.

Our correspondent, who was at the INEC headquarters in Lokoja, reports that the Collation officers of the 21 LGAs of the state began trickling in at about 11am on Sunday but the actual collation did not begin until 6pm, when only seven Collation Officers had arrived.

By 8pm, Buhari was leading President Goodluck Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party, polling 108,817 votes from six LGAs against Jonathan’s 84,555 in five LGAs.

My ex boyfriend persuaded me to make a sex tape and then posted it on a porn website when we broke up

Hazel Higgleton, 25, went through hell when a jilted boyfriend wanting revenge posted an intimate video of her on a porn website...

Hazel is glad legislation has changed after what she went through
Laughing with my friends, I glanced down at my phone. We were having a sunny picnic in the park and I’d casually mentioned I’d had some Facebook friend requests from men I didn’t know.

"Check your “Others Inbox” to see if anyone’s messaged you," my friend Donna suggested. As I logged on and opened the folder, a wave of nausea hit me.

Flashing in front of me was message after message, all from strange men. I felt weak as I read the contents. Some were unbelievably crude, describing what they wanted to do to me, others warned me that a sex video of me was online – even including a link.

The nightmare begins

I tentatively clicked on it. To my horror, my full name flashed up in capital letters, followed by a video that was private, intimate and graphic. Five seconds’ viewing was enough – I shut down the screen and flung the phone on the floor.

I felt violated and dirty, almost as if those men had been physically touching me. I wanted to contact them all and scream that they had no right to see me like that.

My mind flashed back to events of the last few months. Yes, I’d consented to being filmed, but in doing so I’d done nothing wrong. The only person who’d acted badly was my ex-boyfriend, John*, who’d filmed me, kept the video and, without my permission, posted it on porn sites to get back at me for our break-up. I felt sick.

That summer I’d been piecing my life back together. After a tempestuous, 10-month relationship, I’d finally found the strength to leave John, who was very controlling. Our first few weeks together had been great, which was when that video was filmed.

"Go on," he said. "It’ll be special, so I can watch you even when we’re apart." He talked me into it – the idea he’d show anyone else never crossed my mind.

Hazel had trusted her boyfriend
Even when his controlling behaviour escalated, that video never concerned me. The rows were constant, and his mind games got disturbing. While we were arguing one day, me crying in my pyjamas, he whipped out his phone, photographed my distraught expression, then threatened to put the picture on social media.

I begged him not to and in the end he never did. Looking back, that was the least of my worries…

"We’re only over when I say we’re over," he texted me after I’d plucked up the courage to leave him for good. "Don’t forget, I’ve still got that video," he messaged. "I’m going to post it online."

Naively, I didn’t take his threats seriously. When he texted screenshots of the video to me and, embarrassingly, my friend Donna, I still didn’t believe him. It felt like yet another power trip. Even he wasn’t capable of doing something so hurtful, I assumed. How wrong could I be?

Feeling helpless

That afternoon in the park, still reeling from the shock, I started thinking about what to do. "I’ve got to call the police," I told Donna as we packed away the picnic.

I’d never heard of revenge porn, but I’d read about celebrity sex tapes, and the big American lawsuits. What had happened to me had to be illegal… hadn’t it?

I was in for a shock. After taking a statement and looking at messages from John, the two police officers gently broke the news. "I’m afraid we can’t do anything," one said, regretfully. "In the eyes of the law, what he did doesn’t constitute harassment." I felt powerless.

All they could do was advise me to text John, warning him not to contact me again, and to email internet search engines requesting the video was taken down. I couldn’t believe it! I was the one being violated, yet the law was against me. John, meanwhile, was free to get away with his disgusting actions.

In the weeks that followed, the video went viral, and was re-posted by random people to porn sites around the world, even in Japan.

Frank Lampard and fiancée Christine Bleakley look mad about Manhattan after viewing this luxury apartment.

The New York City star, 36, smiled broadly as he clutched the floorplan for the flat with a monthly rent which, at $95,000 – or £64,000 – could buy him a house outright in some parts of Britain.

Loan star: Lampard is currently on loan at Manchester City
Lamps, currently on loan at Manchester City , is due to move to the US to join New York City FC in July, and he would certainly be comfortable in his new home.

Measuring 9,000sq ft inside, with 5,300sq ft of outdoor terraces, it’s nearly a quarter of the size of an international football pitch.

Happy couple: Lampard with ex-One Show host Christine Bleakley
And its prime location in the sought-after West Village means his neighbours will include A-list film stars Daniel Radcliffe, Hugh Jackman and Julianne Moore.

A source said: “It’s an incredible place and he will have great company if he gets the keys. It’s taken a long time to make the move but he’s finally starting to make plans to leave the UK.”

New neighbour: Film star Hugh Jackman, taking his dogs for a walk in Manhattan
The midfielder signed with New York City FC last summer but had a delayed start after joining Manchester City on loan to help Manuel Pellegrini push for the Premier League title.

His move looks one step closer now that he and TV presenter Christine , 36, have found this flat. It’s all set for them to move straight in – they just need to bring some Lamps...

Mashaba vows to compound Eagles woes

After steering South Africa to a 3-1 defeat of Swaziland, Coach Ephraim Shakes Mashaba has boasted that the Super Eagles would suffer a similar fate in the hands of the Bafana Bafana in tomorrow’s international friendly match at the Mbombela stadium in Nelspruit.
South Africa are riding on a crest-wave of renewed soccer optimism following the thumping of Swaziland on Wednesday, with fans of the former apartheid state hailing the boys for their strong show of performance away from home.
The win in Swaziland somehow made up for their shock exit at the last African Cup of Nations and with the team facing old rivals Nigeria tomorrow, Coach Mashaba, while noting that the Eagles want to avenge their failure to qualify for the last AFCON in the hands of South Africa, said that he was sure that his troops can come up with the goods that will see them emerge winners.
“Of course the Nigerians are still feeling bitter after we knocked them out,” said the tactician. “To them, it’s payback time. Of course they still want to show us that they are still the best when comes to football in Africa.” Mashaba admits that it will be difficult to plan for the game against a Super Eagles outfit that has made significant changes since the two sides last met in a 2-2 AFCON qualifying draw back in November 2014.
“Like I always say, you challenge teams based on what you have seen in the past, but unfortunately when you get to this because it’s a practice match, they don’t bring what you expect,” the coach continued.
“But we are not going to believe that is going to be an easy game, it’s going to be a tough match. We will definitely again put up a strong side in this game and our players must be prepared to compete and get the victory against the Nigerians”. After 11 games between both countries, Nigeria have only lost to South Africa on one occasion, with three matches, including the most recent, both ending in draws.

The UN Chief said that he was encouraged by the determination and resilience shown by Nigerians in pressing forward and exercising their civic duties.
The Secretary-General called on all actors to channel any complaints that might arise from the elections through the established dispute resolution mechanisms.

Nurses bring sick 85-year-old voter to polling booth

Ailing 85-year-old Dr. Adebisi Sebanjo, caused a stir on Saturday after he arrived at the polling unit at Doula, Apapa, Lagos State.

The octogenarian medical director of Julisam Hospital was assisted by two young female nurses wearing blue uniforms.

Adebisi is the father of the Senior Special Adviser on Poverty Alleviation to Governor Babatunde Fashola, Idowu Sebanjo.

The aged doctor could not speak with our correspondent. The nurses said he “has little or no strength to talk.’’

But he was not the only aged person who came out to vote on Saturday.

Many other old people turned out to cast their votes for candidates of their choice despite many challenges the exercises posed.

Those who spoke with SUNDAY PUNCH said they came out to ensure that the country remained united and to set good example to the younger generation.

According to 89-year-old Dr. Abimbola Silva ─ mother of Nollywood actress, Joke Silva ─ voting was her fundamental right.

Silva, who was in a wheelchair, said, “It is my right to vote. By doing this I am laying a good example for the younger generation. The exercise has been ok,” she said.

Another aged voter, Mr. Oyedele Oyelade, 78, expressed delight at being able to cast his vote despite waiting till about 4pm to be accredited.

The duo of Musa Mohammed and Ibrahim Alilu, aged 75 and 80 respectively, told SUNDAY PUNCH that they wanted the country to get better.

Also at the Doula polling unit to vote was Mr. Adamu Zaria, a blind 65-year-old man.

“Though I am blind, I know who I want to vote for. I am a Nigerian. I have hope that Nigeria will become better,” he said.

Village bans kissing in public

An Indian village in a western coastal state has imposed a ban on couples kissing in public, claiming the sight of such “obscene” behaviour is unwanted by local residents.
The village parliament of Salvador-de-Mundo, eight miles north of Goa’s capital Panaji, unanimously passed a resolution this week warning holidaymakers against engaging in public displays of affection.
“We have adopted this resolution following complaints from villagers about couples kissing in public. This was the only way to put an end to it,” deputy village chief Reena Fernandes told AFP on Thursday.
She said they had complained to local authorities but a lack of response had forced the council to take matters into its own hands and pass a resolution which also “banned public drinking and playing loud music.”
However, she declined to comment on whether punitive action will be taken against potential violators of the bylaws.
“We have serene beaches which attract tourists in a big way. Several times we saw couples acting indecently which irked us,” villager Savio Rebeiro told AFP.
The fishing hub on the Arabian sea coastline has now displayed banners in public places to spread awareness of the prohibitions.
Goa’s long sandy beaches have long been a haven for millions of tourists drawn mostly from the West, but a string of controversial statements by local politicians has dented its tourist-friendly image.
The state is ruled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party, which this week barred its female employees from wearing jeans and sleeveless tops in the office.
Last year a top Goa minister demanded a ban on wearing bikinis on beaches, drawing criticism from the public and tourism industry.

Why I turned a polygamist — Jide Kosoko

Perhaps, one of the most popular veteran actors in the movie industry right now who has as much presence in the Yoruba films as in English films is no other than Prince Jide Kosoko. He is an actor who has been around for more than six decades. He is so talented he is considered by colleagues to be a chameleon when it comes to assuming characters to translate his roles.
In this engaging interview, the Prince of Kosoko Royal Family of Lagos chronicles the history of film productions in Nigeria, his family, and the art of acting.
There have been   arguments over when Nollywood came into existence. In your own view, when did the film industry emerge in Nigeria ?
Nollywood is more than 20 years old as against what people think. They make reference to Living in Bondage (1992) which was not the pioneer film in Nigeria. I produced Asiri nla that same year. Film production in Nigeria started in the 60s but most of the films were documentaries.
Do you mind taking us down the memory lane?
Professor Wole Soyinka produced Kongi Harvest which did not have a commercial viability then. Commercialised film-making in Nigeria started in 1976 with Ajani Ogun produced by Dr. Ola Balogun . This film experimented on the already existing Yoruba theater created by the likes of Herbert Ogunde, Baba Sala, Duro Ladipo, Kolawole Ogunmola , Ogungbe, etc. who were as at that time, acting on stage.
Ajani Ogun was in celluloid and that was the first film that started the revolution of film-making in Nigeria. Other films like Ija Ominira, Aiye, etc. also followed suit.
The process of film production could not be completed in Nigeria because our laboratories lacked the equipment needed for the post production, so many producers had to travel abroad. In 1985 when the economic Structural Adjustment Programme of the country started, many film producers could not make enough money to travel abroad for the post production of films. Along the line, Alade Aromire broke the jinx and produced a film using a video projector. Although the production was of low quality, it recorded a huge success like the celluloid.
After this, I produced Asiri Nla and Adebayo Salami produced Asewo to re meka in 1992 to improve on the low quality. Tunde Kelani followed with Ti oluwa nile. And that started the second revolution, improving on what was on ground. In the late 90s the third revolution started. Living in Bondage by Kenneth Nnebue & Okechukwu Ogunjiofor started the incursion of other tribes into the industry.
Kenneth Nnebue had produced Aje niya mi and other films for NEK Videos before Living in Bondage. Living in Bondage did have its impact on the Nigeria film industry, in terms of equipment, post production etc., but can never be a point of reference when thinking about when Nollywood came into existence.
You started acting when many parents did not believe in the industry. How did you manage?
I started acting professionally in 1964 at age 10. But I starred in a professional production which was even before film production. My parents were not happy with my choice of career just like other parents. But I was rascally as a child. I engaged in things that many of my mates never could dare. My parents felt I was to be entertained as a royal prince and not the other way round.
What do you think influenced your choice of career?
My passion for acting. Also, I lived in the same vicinity with Papa Hubert Ogunde on the Island and had some of his children as friends. I used to admire how people shouted his name whenever he drove round the street and I prayed to be like him. So, when the opportunity came, even as a child, I grabbed it with both hands.
What do you think you would have become if you didn’t go acting?
Sincerely, I don’t know if I could have succeeded outside the creative world. Acting and entertainment is my calling.
What are the things you consider before accepting roles?
I have gotten to a stage where I cannot afford to be part of a bad production.

Boko Haram Beheads 23 People And Sets Homes On Fire In Borno

Suspected Boko Haram gunmen beheaded 23 people and set fire to homes in Buratai, northeast Nigeria, on the eve of Saturday’s general elections, a federal lawmaker representing the area told AFP.
“There was an attack on Buratai late Friday by gunmen suspected to be insurgents….They beheaded 23 people and set homes on fire,” said Mohammed Adamu, who represents the town some 200 kilometres (125 miles) from Borno’s capital Maiduguri.

“At least half the village has been burnt,” he added.
A nurse at the nearest major hospital, in Biu, said the 32 injured who were receiving care also reported that many were decapitated during the attack.

Further details of the violence were not immediately available, but the attack is consistent with Boko Haram’s past strikes in the area in the south of the state, where defenceless civilians have been repeatedly targeted.

It was not clear if the raid late Friday was linked to Saturday’s polls, but Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau had vowed to disrupt the vote.

Elsewhere in Nigeria’s restive northeast, suspected Islamist militants killed at least seven people in separate attacks in the Gombe state.

Witnesses reported that the assailants in Gombe made clear their intention was to disrupt the polls.

Armed robbers rape seven women during deliverance vigil

SEVEN ladies who  went for night vigil for deliverance in a new generation church, located at 2nd Cemetery Road, Benin-City, were allegedly raped by armed bandits who stormed the church at about 4am on Thursday.
The robbers were said to have earlier raided a  building near Ewuotubu community where they robbed some tenants living in four different flats in the compound. It was learnt  that two persons, including a police officer, were shot dead while others sustained various degrees of injuries in the process.
What was supposed to be an all-night marathon prayer session , tagged ‘Koboko Night’, meant to cast out demons tormenting some members of the  church, turned sour as the masked armed robbers, numbering six, shot sporadically, ordering the members to go back to the church shortly after they said the final prayers to depart the church.
The robbers had, on storming the church premises, rained bullets on the roof and ordered members to lie down. Consequently, they  raped the women.
One of the victims, who narrated her ordeal to Sunday Vanguard, said, “Though I was not raped, I was beaten mercilessly when they were asking us to identify the pastor and we refused. After collecting our phones, money and jewelleries, they ordered some of the ladies to undress. They threatened to kill them if they refused and, of course, they removed their clothes and were raped one by one.
“It was actually two churches that they attacked. They raped five women in our church. Later, we found out that they raped two others in a church close to ours. They ransacked the church and collected any cash they found and escaped. It was a horrible sight”.
The raped women are said to be receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital on Ekenwan Road, Benin City.
